Myself and partner darren stayed after we found out great langdale campsite was closed because of the terrible weather. We had a lovely stay. Jo and Kat are really pleasant. I think the food is really top notch and I am a foodie. I was reading somebody's wingy comment before and I think some people are never happy and just... More

An uncertain break. Oh dear! This is my last nights stay at the Outgate Inn, Ambleside Cumbria and I don't believe I will be returning. The last two days has seen atrocious weather. This is perhaps the worst weather my wife & I can recall from any stay in the 'Lakes', and has not helped in determining my concerns about... More

we were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. nothing too much trouble for Kat. lots of excellent walks recommended which were all accessible from the Outgate inn. the food is incredibly good ( we ate there every night there was such a lovely menu we had no need to drive elsewhere) with good beers and a... We stayed 5 days in August and from the start Kat, Craig, Lily and the team couldn't have been more welcoming. This is a lovely traditional English pub with fine ales and amazing food. Situated between Ambleside and Hawkshead its a perfect piece of isolation to explore the hills around. The breakfasts are hot and tasty with the best sausages... More

Whilst traveling around the Lake District we popped in for a snack for lunch. The Ploughman's Lunch was excellent as was the beer selection to wash it down with. Couple this with a wonderful landlord I have to say this little pub is special. We returned that night with a group of friends and experienced more fine service and a... More

We walked to the Outgate Inn from Low Wray campsite, where we'd spent most of the day in our tent sheltering from the rain. But we needed to get out, and we didn't have any food in, so we waterproofed up and got on with it. It was actually a pleasant walk, if a bit soggy, and when we got... More

We had popped in for a sandwich after a tree climb morning we were exhausted and just wanted some food. What we got was lovely friendly service (a nothing too much trouble attitude) we opted for sandwiches with soup and some chips so nothing challenging but what we got was just about the nicest possible simple food. So nice when... More

Just popped in for a quick drink and a look at the menu - good choice for a bar lunch. Lovely black pudding in batter (no, nothing like that horrible stuff with white bits in, sold in polystyrene trays in supermarkets) and a very good fish finger sandwich. Nice glass of Prosecco from a good wine list. Very pleasant and... More

We had a long weekend here and it was great. Our room was good and the breakfast, bar food and the beer was all very good. Pub had a nice atmosphere and was in such a beautiful place with Hawkshead just down the road where you can hop on a bus to the lakes. We would happily stay here again.

Only ate here, did not stay. Basic pub grub; good portion sizes (the most enormous fish and chips I have ever seen), menu nothing spectacular but food well prepared and kids well catered for. Have board games to keep them busy whilst waiting for food to arrive. Well kept local beers. Waitresses prompt and friendly. Does get busy early-doors with... More
