Great location, 15 minute walk from hawkshead main street. Good pubs with live music. Excellent base for walkers, cyclists or just for enjoying the lakes. Staff friendly , breakfast was ok , would definately return.

Thank you for your review, really pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. I think the location is one of the best things about YHA Hawkshead, as you say an easy stroll to a lovely village with great pubs and entertainment. There are miles of good cycling directly from the hostel and all the fells are within a short drive.... More

A friend and I stayed for 2 nights for an active weekend. On arrival, the first thing we noticed is just how small the car park is, there is an overflow but it is down a steep unlit hill. But if the other guests parked there cars right without leaving almost a cars width between each one, we would have... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I'm really pleased your first stay with the YHA was a positive experience and glad that you found the staff, location and facalities good. I'm sorry you didn't feel the breakfast was good value, I think for the price you get a good selection and the majority of... More

We came home today after 2 nights at YHA Hawkshead. Got to say it was a great experience for a first time taking the family to stay at a youth hostel. The building whilst rough around the edges was steeped in history and as we were the only people in the lounge on Friday night you could imagine being in... More

Hi guys, thank you for your very kind review, it was a pleasure to meet you all and have you stay with us (or me as the case was that weekend) The hostel is a never ending journey of maintenance and renovation, I think I could spend the next 20 years fixing things and still not be finished! But we... More

We (2 adults and 1 child) stayed in a large pod. We are all hooked on them now and shall certainly be staying in them again. Warm and light, it's like luxurious camping. As to the hostel - needs a definite spruce as others have said. Could do with a thorough clean; obviously we can only comment on the communal... More

Thank you for your review. I'm really pleased that you had a great stay in a pod! I understand your concerns with the cleanliness of the hostel, as I have said previously we are expecting quite a bit of change over the coming months, including several painting projects and hopefully some new furniture. I certainly believe that a hostel has... More

3 nights in half term with family, walking and cycling in nearby Grizedale Forest. Youth Hostel is in prime location overlooking Esthwaite Water, close to Grizedale Forest and surrounded by lovely grounds. The food was good and the staff friendly. It is a beautiful old building BUT the youth hostel needs a bit of a clean, not a major refurb,... More

Just very run down, especially the rooms, and hard, hard mattresses. This is our sixth hostel staying with family and was easily the least maintained. Toilets were shabby and room had hole in the floor and dirty carpets. Absolutely no power in the shower. Self catering kitchen was very shabby with dirty tea towels and the paper dispenser not refilled.... More

This was my first stay in a YHA. The staff were very welcoming, and couldn't have been more helpful. The room was clean, as were the toilets and shower rooms. The standard of the food in the dining room was very good. Whilst the hostel could do with, in my opinion, a make over re decoration etc, it is a... More

Stayed for a weekend in one of the camping pods which we loved. Thank you for your review. I'm really pleased you had a good time in the pods. Campers and podders are able to use all of the hostel facalities so if the main shower block does get to busy there are plenty of others available to use. Thanks again for staying with us and I hope we see you again. More

Stayed for 3 nights in a tent in the grounds. Pitch was very good (flat) and breakfast from hostel was good value and filling. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Short distance into Hawkshead itself (about a mile or so) but we had bikes so not a problem (and not a very busy road to walk if necessary).
