Don't stay here if you do not have car. Hawkshead village is far from everything although there is a local bus that takes an hour to get to ambleside, the last one leaves at 6pm and thru run hourly. Hawkshead is a wonderful place to visit ancient the YHA provides a welcome second to none. Had a great weekend here and Coniston Water is beautiful. Catering at the hostel.... first class. If you wish to self cater then all you would wish for is available in the self catering kitchen.
