I am slightly non-plussed at reviewers complaining about the location of the hostel when it is clearly mentioned on the website, I think they should perhaps take a little responsibility for themselves......For me the location is superb. The grounds are lovely, it's a 20 minute potter down the road to the lovely village and the excellent King's Arms and there... More

I rented a "pod" - wooden hut about 8 ft by 12 ft. Lovely pine interior, circular roof but plenty headroom, great insulation and warm as toast despite freezing outside. Had heater, power points and electric light. £50 per night for a pod that sleeps 4. Yes: £12.50 a head for 4. Good comfy mattresses, pillow and sheets/cases included. Little... More

A group of us stayed here for a weekend away and we loved the beautiful period property and stunning views across Esthwaite water. Inside, the property is looking rather dilapidated and could do with repairs and redecoration - however, it was clean and functional. Some of the furniture in our room was in really poor condition, but the beds were... More

Thank you for taking the time to review YHA Hawskead. We will look into the shower locks as we were not aware they were an issue- thank you for pointing this out. We are currently looking at solutions for more secure storage and hope to improve this soon. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in the part of the Lakes... More

We stayed for two nights in a camping pod. This was the first time in a pod and it was a great experience. It was clean, with a heater, light and two camping chairs. The camping facilities - toilets and showers were very clean. There was only other people staying in the other 3 pods, so i dont know how... More

Don't stay here if you do not have car. Hawkshead village is far from everything although there is a local bus that takes an hour to get to ambleside, the last one leaves at 6pm and thru run hourly. Considering how far it is, and there is no lighting on the long walk at night, they should offer a shuttle... More

Thank you for your review. We are indeed in a rural location, which we feel is one of the many charms of the Lake District. The village is one mile away (15-20 minute walk) and this is mentioned on our website. I think you may have been caught up in traffic on the bus as it is timetabled to take... More

Staying here was an absolutely awful experience. None of the members of the large group of about 30 with whom I stayed in this hostel had anything positive to say about it. Although we were only there for a two night stay, we were required to both make our beds and later strip them of their sheets. In addition, the... More

Thank you for taking time to review YHA Hawkshead. We pride ourselves on our rural location and what the local area has to offer; we do not have direct access to the higher fells but there are numerous walks nearby that staff are always happy to recommend. Making beds is still part of hostel life at many YHAs and I'm... More

Set in a lovely part of the lakes this yha is ideally placed to explore the southern part. The yha is set in what would have been a lovely country mansion but as with most of these is now very tired and in need of money spending. We stopped in the annex and again tired but functional with cooking facilities... More

This is my second stay at Hawkshead youth Hostel. As far as youth hostels go, I think its of a very good standard. It's always very warm, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Hawkshead is a wonderful place to visit ancient the YHA provides a welcome second to none. Had a great weekend here and Coniston Water is beautiful. Catering at the hostel.... first class. If you wish to self cater then all you would wish for is available in the self catering kitchen.
