We visited ash cottage hotel restaurant as we were staying at the best western red lion over the road. The menu looked varied and not a bad price. We kept it simple and ordered haddock and chips and steak pie and chips. Portions were generous and the food was clearly freshly prepared. Flavours were really good and the veg with... More

We have visited Grasmere many times but only found this gem last night, gutted we haven't wandered in here before now. Staff were very friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, food was good and even though there is no child's menu don't let this put you off as they offer smaller portions of the menu for kids. It was the last day of our week break so took an easy relaxing walk over from Ambleside via the Coffin route to Grasmere and decided to pop in for a light lunch and refreshment. The service was ok, nothing out of this world, the ales are bottled but at pump prices but with a good selection (Loweswater Gold, Langdale... More

We had a lovely meal here this week, venison pie and Thai chicken curry, followed by a dime cake. The service was very good, it was quiet in there, but the manager came out and was talking knout the great artwork in the place. Would definitely consider staying here on a future visit to Gras ere, thank you.

We did not find a good old English pub in the village to eat at but ash cottage came the closest. The decor... More
