A group of us were staying overnight in Grasmere while doing the Coast to Coast walk. After looking at a few places we chose Ash Cottage for our evening meal. Food and service were excellent, staff were friendly and we had a great evening. We'll be back! more

I dont think this place knows what it wants to be - a hotel, a bar, a restaurant, a coffee shop and that atmosphere speaks volumes over the entire place. We had the misfortune of staying here for 2 nights and I couldnt wait to go home. The original room we were allocated to had no windows so we moved... more

We ate in the Ash Cottage Hotel restaurant for my 50th Birthday meal. What a mistake. I knew we should have upped and tried somewhere else when I looked over at the next table to see the "mash" in 2 huge school dinner style blobs on the plate. I had lasagne (microwaved) with jacket wedges (from large plastic Iceland style... more

We ate here..... never again. If you want to pay alot of money for a frozen microwaved meal book a table. When we were asked if we enjoyed our meal we both replied "NO" at the same time, the waitress didn't know what to say. She returned and asked if we would like a drink on the house we refused... more

We have just come back from a stay in Grasmere at Ash cottage & I have to say what a great stay we had. The room was lovely with a big comfortable four poster bed & great staff. it wasnt the cheapest B&B but as we discovered it was well worth paying a bit extra. The food was excellent &... more

My wife Mary and I stayed here in march for the first time. We arrived in Grasmere after booking at the Forrestside Hotel, what a mistake. We walked around Grasmere and visited several hotels in the village, deciding to stay at the Ash Cottage. The reception from Peter was most welcoming, he showed us the choice of different room types.... more

Husband and I stayed here for a weekend in September to celebrate our anniversary. Enjoyed ourselves so much that I went back to book for Easter. Thankful that I had my own experience of this hotel to go on as came across one of the other reviews whilst booking and if I hadn't just stayed here would have been put... more

Didn't stay at the Ash Cottage but had a meal there. What a disaster. Where do I begin to tell the tale? Well, it might have helped if one person employed there could speak English. The staff are East European girls and their spoken English was appalling. I must admit that took me by complete surprise. I live in London... more

We had an evening meal here. We were enticed by the great looking interior of the hotel and assumed that the food would be as good. Starters we fishcakes that were obviously shop brought and of poor quality and dumped on some iceberg. The main course described itself as fresh haddock and chips. Again this was like the fish and... more

Ash Cottage Hotel is a lovely place to stay, right in the centre of Grasmere. The hotel is contemporary in style, with flat-screen TV's in rooms, fancy dimmer halogen-lights and very comfortable beds. Nice and quiet too. The owner / staff were very friendly and look after you well during your stay. The rooms are nicely decorated and have double-glazed... more
