We stopped here for lunch and is ideally located for visiting Grasmere. I opted for roast beef dinner which was part of a 2 course deal. I had home made rice pudding for dessert. Both were delicious!! The place was lovely and warm, with roaring fire and nice atmosphere. Would definitely stop here again for food.

Great open fire, even better selection of all Jennings real ales, great food from a full menu with some special deals of more than one course, but the pubs best assets are its Staff. We only got to know Steffan by name, but what team. Keep up the good work Landlord, we will be back soon.

The bathroom was quite cold and the door wouldn't shut properly..just needs a quick plane. The shower was lovely. The staff are outstanding nothing too much trouble. And service with a smile all... It was on side of hotel so we did have a bit of noise from the road but it wasn't really a problem. We ate,in the restaurant... More

Stayed overnight Saturday 31st January. The staff were so helpful and kind. As should be expected in an old coaching inn, the rooms are small and showing signs of age, but that is part of the appeal. It's comfortable and non pretentious. We dined in the restaurant and sampled the steak, having the sirloin steak. Very tasty and good value... More

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in May during our Coast to Coast walk. We arrived from Borrowdale on a wet day, completely soaked, and it was a lovely, comfortable place to rest and dry out. The room was small but adequate. The bathroom was clean and modern (none of the mold described and pictured in other reviews).... More

An excellent Hotel with old rustic decor, we felt like part of the family sat by the coal fire the room was clean and well presented with a very comfy bed. Well stocked teas, coffee and chocolate. The Staff were very professional, giving excellent service, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a memorable stay we'll be back.
