This is the first time we have returned to the Lake District and the Travellers Rest and we found it just as we remembered. Comfortable accommodation, welcoming staff, good food and coal fires. It is well situated just outside the town of Grasmere - on a main bus route - handy for walkers

Located just outside Grasmere, on the main road between Keswick and Ambleside. The Travellers Rest is an easy 10-15 minute walk to the village centre. We stopped here for a 3 night, long weekend break in July. Our room, located in the corner of the inn (room 9, I think), was nice - plenty of light and a comfortable sleep.... More

Lunch time menu was great value well presented and tasty, evening meal was poor, one curry meal had awful oil covered popadums, I don't think the kitchen staff knew how to prepare or serve them, other food was mediocre although Staff excellent.

We stayed here for a weekend October 25th. The staff were so friendly and made us very welcome on our arrival. Our room, number 3, was on the front and yes, we had the noise from the main road but it wasn't that bad. The room was on the small side but clean and very comfortable with en suite facilities.... After a wet day's walking from Rosthwaite to Grasmere, we were pleased to see the lights of the Travellers Rest through the rain. We were a little dubious about staying after reading some of the negative reviews but were reassured as soon as we arrived. The barman was very welcoming and offered a warming brandy with the room keys. The... More

Ok for quick lunch, food arrived quickly, had roast chicken basket (lots of chicken but only luke warm) and scampi basket. Both ok, hot chips, nice sauces (actual bottles rather than standard sachets....and tasted nicer than sachets), free parking (big bonus in the lakes on a Sunday), small range of beer on tap (not to my taste). Better than a... More

Called in for a meal late afternoon very good service and made very welcome but well over priced. Called into another pub today (day after) and had the same meal and drinks nearly ten pounds cheaper and home made food.

Unfortunately this room was at the front of premises within a few metres of the main road with only single glazed windows, so we suffered throughout the night with the noise of passing traffic. The shower room was dirty with mould around it and a large area on the ceiling near to an extractor fan that had not been in... More

It was a friends 80th, Sunday 14th Sept. We arrived around 6pm to eat. A selection of "Artisan" bread is what reads on the menu. We were served 4 pieces of sliced French stick with no apology. 2 of us ordered blue cheese gratin wild mushrooms, with a beetroot pickle £7.99. What arrived was a large plate , 2 very... More
