Stayed here at the end of Day 3 of the C2C walk and what a welcome sight it was! Slightly out of the village but directly on the path for the following days walk. After a much needed pint, we were shown to our room – a regular room, clean and a nice comfortable bed! The young lady on the... More

Stayed here over the August bank holiday weekend to watch the Grasmere Lakeland Sports. The room was clean and modern and the views were amazing. We ate in the restaurant on Saturday night and can honestly say my rare steak that I ordered was the best I have had in a very long time... perfect. Credit to the Chef. For... More

The only disappointing stay on the first half of the C2C. Not the fault of the staff. They were excellent. Presumably quality was sacrificed as this was part of a chain and everything seems to be pruned to a minimum. Room had no carpet or rugs and had a prison style bed. Shower facility was lethal. Extremely slippy. Striding Edge... More

Located on the main A591 about a mile from Grasmere village the Travellers Rest is well situated for anyone visiting the heart of the lake district, although if you want a taxi to get into Grasmere itself it should be noted there is only one taxi driver in the village and he doesn't work 24 hours a day. We were... More

Walking the C2C this was a welcome sight and the staff, particularly Michaela, could not have been better. Very good meal in the restaurant. Room was in the rafters and prettily decorated but the mattress has seen better days. Good breakfast and close to the path to resume the walk.

We went to this pub on a locals reccomendation for some food, when we went in staff seemed nice we ordered two sirloin stakes the meal was nice but we thought a bit pricey however the real shock came when we got the bill they claimed we had ordered fillet stakes which where an extra £7.50 each the member of staff... Paid £100 a night for B&B and the room could have been a bit more swish for that, but it was clean and comfortable and had lots of space and a nice view of the fells and some sheep. For a prime location in the lakes, can't complain! Also can't complain about the breakfast which was not exceptional but was... More

My boyfriend booked this hotel on a whim after we decided to go up to the lakes for the day, we we're surprised at just how beautiful the location was! We paid £100 for a Saturday night with breakfast which I must say is probably slightly overpriced, but expected seeing as we we're staying in The Lakes during summer. The... More

Positives first; location and most staff doing their best. Check in and bartender (Lithuanian) were really nice and helpful. Negatives; in contrast, local staff not particularly professional or impressive. Total absence of atmosphere of ownership, staff were clearly employees and came away feeling it could have been so much better. Overall feeling the place is there to make a margin... More
