And so it began,I was greeted with the sight of two scruffily dressed men standing blocking the entrance, puffing away on cigarettes. To my horror it turned out that the rude ignorant man who needed to be asked to move aside, was indeed the manager himself. We then checked into the hotel and proceeded to the room. Upon reaching the... more

We attended a murder mystery weekend at Forest Side with friends for a birthday treat. PLEASE take the time to read on, it gets worse. First impressions of the room - extremely cold, minus degrees, old heating system, mould on the walls and furnishings (curtains), plaster and woodchip peeling off the walls, bathroom antiquated and mould ridden. We had four... more

We were not surprised to find a bad review on Trip Advisor regarding this customers Murder Mystery weekend but was very surprised to read a very personal attack upon our family. We did ask a small group of four to leave the hotel due to their consistent attitude and rudeness to other paying guests, which was spoiling their experience. Both...

What could have been a really well deserved break and birthday turned out to be a complete sham. I have never been so unfairly jugded or misunderstood in my life by the managers bizarre family arrangement and foreign staff of this establishment. This particular weekend was a murder mistery break so was especially confusing. All participating members where rude and... more

This hotel looks fine from internet pictures but inside all is not well. The reception area is ok but once you enter the rooms you expect Basil Fawlty to jump out. The rooms are covered in wood chip wallpaper with old smelling convector heaters. The showers are old and electric and dribble raher than surge. If you have booked to... more

This is the hotel with the best location in Grasmere. It is surrounded by beautiful woodland and we saw deer & badgers. The hotel has a large car park and the building is very attractive. A lot of restoration work has been undertaken. Service in the hotel is excellent - all staff are friendly and helpful. Shelly and Dave are... more

I booked a room at this hotel for a wedding we were attending at a nearby church. It was a last minute booking made only a few days before, and Forestside was selected for having the most reasonably priced rooms in High season in Grasmere. Although the decor of the rooms is spartan (it reminded me of the accomodation in... more

Booked via their website which tells of wonderfull location "situated in wooded estate" and views. Booked a superior room with views. When we checked in the reception staff were OK. We were told that our superior room was 'at the top of the tower', then the adventure started. After climbing the stairs to the summit of the hotel we opened... more

Stayed in Superior Double in April 08. Happy with all female staff. Friendly and attentive esp hardworking Maya. Room could do with a woman`s touch also, as a little ragged around the edges. Damp stains on ceiling and bathroom in need of modern touches. Room not filled with technical wizardry, despite inclusion of DVD player.More like a B and B... more

We have now stayed at the Forestside four times, the first time because we wanted a cheap hotel and they were offering a pay for one night and get the next free. We, immediately felt at home and had a fabulous weekend, the staff there headed by Dave and Shelley could not have made us more welcome. The last time... more
