We have just come back from a birthday treat for my husband. Booked online and get a fantastic deal, we only live 20 minutes away and it was a last minute treat. We have stayed a a few different hotels in the Lake District over the last 15 years, to take advantage of what is on our door step. Arrived... More

After wanting to go for afternoon tea for weeks my husband finally took me. We arrived and were seated promptly, and told someone would be with us shortly, someone came and gave us a glass of water. Then we sat for well over 20 minutes, after seeing a table of 5 seated next to us and seated and served within... More

The owners are to be complimented for doing something different. It is quirky but loses nothing in its attempt to be different. The spa is v good and the position outstanding. Our suite was the molten brown suite and was very spacious. Breakfast excellent and Thatchers Gold cider on draught. What a bonus!! Worth a visit but be warned, it... More

A recent visit for afternoon tea, the hotel sits on its own grounds, the hotel has undergone major refurbishment and the reception area, was more like a slick city hotel than a Cumbrian retreat. Nestling on the shores of Grasmere the grounds are laid to rough grass and ample outside seating area. A bit of a mix up over our... More

We went as a couple to celebrate my husbands birthday. The hotel is beautiful and the staff were friendly. I asked for a lake view when I booked and a lake view we got! Gorgeous. Breakfasts were perfect, everything you could hope for and the position of the hotel is ideal for a stroll into Grasmere. We are out at... More

Excellent restaurant. Afternoon tea is very good. Probably best not to have a lake view at the weekend when the function room is being used as it can be noisy. The staff were very friendly. The spa was very good.

We spent a weekend as part of a wedding party. This place is weird: it's right in the heart of Lakeland, on Grasmere, opposite Dove Cottage. But go inside and you could be in any standard hotel anywhere. They've missed a trick here: the ambience could have been so much more fitting to its surroundings. It's clearly popular with international... More

My wife and I stayed in lake view view and were lucky enough to get a corner room with 2 sets of French opening doors so the views were great. The price included dinner and the food was of a high standard although my dick was a little overcooked. observed by fellow diners also. Breakfast was varied. Didnt try the... More
