I really enjoyed my stay at Thorney How. The staff were very friendly and encouraged us to make use of the wi-fi and bar. They let us watch films in the evening which was great. Would definitely come again.

After our hardest day's walk the proprietor could only direct us to the DIY kitchen for a glass of water. Towels were £2 extra over the £55 paid for the room, When I asked why he hadn't mentioned this when I booked he said 'well you didn't ask!' both he and his partner insisted that this was because 'we are...

Great one night stay at Thorney How. Room good. My husband and I had 4 bunk bedroom to ourselves although realize if very busy would have to share.Great breakfast cooked for us in morning. Dogs well catered for with the roomy kennel in the grounds. always glad to be able to take dogs with us. really enjoyed our stay.
We've realised that the provision of accommodation for walkers with dogs is somewhat limited in the Lakes, so we're genuinely pleased that our dog kennel for two is proving beneficial to travellers.
Worth noting for other potential doggy users is the fact that our wooded grounds where the kennel is located may also be frequented by other creatures from cats...

We turned up without reservations on a Bank Holiday, looking very tired and hungry. It was very full but the young man at reception so kindly give up his own room for us to stay in. Needless to say, we were very grateful. The rooms were comfy, the showers and toilets were decent and they even had a film night...

So glad we could help you at a time of need!
Grasmere is a problem for campers and we're well aware of the issue - watch out for camping pods in the near future.

Stopped here with a large group of friends and numerous kids and we all agreed it was first class. The rooms are all clean and spacious , could do with the ability to turn down the heating but this was a very minor issue.
The kitchen facilities are very good, although we did cheat and let our host cook breakfast....

We had a lovely stay at Thorney How; fantastic location, very friendly and helpful staff and reasonable prices. Travelling with a small child we appreciated the well equipped self-catering kitchen, cosy lounge with real fire and generally easygoing atmosphere. Lovely breakfasts as well. We booked a four bunk room for our family so effectively had a private room. More showers...

Had a bit of luck as I did not need to share my dorm :)
For a dorm I found it sort of cosy, nice clean carpeting (yes, after a couple of days hiking you get excited by the most basic of things). The kitchen was great as well. They were very lovely to me after I had lost my...

Thought the hostel was pretty good and was borderline in giving it a 4* rating. On the plus side it has been given a lick of paint and looks welcoming and does everything you expect a hostel to do.
We had a private room and had no grumbles about the room itself. Only slight criticism is that the male facilities...
