Spent six nights at the Red Lion in Grasmere in July 2008 as base camp for exploring the Lake District by car and on foot. Grasmere is a lovely village and the Red Lion is a prominent building in it. Echoing some of the more recent comments on the three stars and under side, sadly, I think time is catching... more

Stayed for a three night mid week break. Check in was fine despite the jazz concert going on in the lounge, room was nice, clean and comfortable and bedroom was modern. Bathroom clean but old and worn. Bed was comfy and everything worked well. The pool, sauna etc was lovely. We didn't visit the attached pub. Was not cheap but... more

We have stayed at the Red Lion Hotel on a few occasions and so far haven't been disappointed. We reserved a club room (Ruskin) which was 'massive' and looked as though it had been refurbished recently, although possibly by a 'manic depressive' as not exactly colour coordinated. However, it was spotlessly clean and maybe added to the eccentricity of the... more

Whilst commanding a superb location in Grasmere, this is a very average hotel and there is nothing exceptional about it. The room we had was quite large but it was very shabby around the edges so I can only assume its one of the rooms that hasnt been refurbished? The bed was so small that after spending 2 nights trying... more

I think that my husband ,myself and 6 other friends must have been to another Red Lion in Grasmere ! .As some of the comments made in other reviews are not a reflection of the hotel we stayed in .The food in the restaurant was excellent, the lounge and conservatory area was comfortable .The rooms if anything were too warm .the... more

Attractive building and welcoming reception area, staff helpful and informative. Rooms in need of a make over, dated faux Ashley patterns and some rather worn fabrics. Eccentric light switch configuration, which lent a disco feel to things. The bathroom was small but adequate, however some guidance on the operation of the shower would have been useful .TV picture and reception good,... more

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and had a standard double room , yes the beds are a little on the small side and the hotel a little dated in parts but you can forgive this given the location of the hotel , right in the middle of a beautiful little village. Staff at the hotel were a... more

Been going for 20years- changed hands recently and is now tired, poorly managed and staffed by bored, disinterested kids. Go over the road - or anywhere else. more

Another fabulous stay in Grasmere. This time we were joined by 14 other members of our family for a surprise party for Paul! The hotel kept the secret very well for us, and were great about the balloons, cake and other bits and bobs we brought with us!We visit this hotel regularly and always enjoy our stays. The rooms are warm... more
