We stayed one night. The room was excellent; large and with plenty of furniture. When we went to eat, my wife ordered the soup off the Specials board but what was delivered was wrong: someone had failed to update or check the board. The barman offered to reimburse us for the soup and to replace the soup with another starter,... More

Stayed just one night at Red lion in Grasmere on way to Scotland. Good location in centre of very scenic area. Adequate room, but very good breakfast, served in true British style. Rather more expensive than our subsequent B&B's, but explainable by location and quality.

We have just returned from a 2 day break (DB&B) at this hotel and had a fabulous time. Fortunately we had great weather which really made our stay. Our hotel room was lovely, spacious clean and had beautiful views. The restaurant was excellent, dinner each evening was varied, tasty and filling, and the fish for breakfast was so nice. Not... We spent 2 nights here last week. What a lovely location. Our room was ideal for us and had everything we needed. The food both at breakfast and in the evening was fine. Must say that the Cumberland Gold Ale on hand pumps at £3.20 a pint was excellent. We had reserved parking which was a great help as this... More

We stayed over Easter weekend 2014. The room we had was excellent, it had a separate area for our ten year old (including a separate tv - bliss!). The hotel was quaint, charming and the food was great. Parking wasn't brilliant but I guess that is the joys of an older building in a small village. Grasmere itself well worth... More

The hotel is situated in the centre of the village; we stayed for three nights on a mid week DB&B formula. We booked a room with sitting area, which was comfortable and gave us a good view of the fells. The beds were large and comfortable, and there were tea-making facilities, however the bathroom was incredibly small. The spa comprised... More

We stayed overnight in September, the hotel looks lovely from the outside, and grassmere is a lovely village. However when we got to our room we were disappointed. The spa bath was dirty and didn't work, the heat was stifling, even with the window open, and the shower made a screaming noise the whole time it was on. The bed... More

We had a very nice stay here in July/August. Although the weather was very disappointing, this hotel was a very good base in a very pretty location. We had a lovely room with great views, even without getting out of bed! The bathroom also had a lovely spa bath. Lovely swimming pool here too with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.... More

Booked for two nights, had to leave after one. Terrible nights sleep in old twin beds when booked a double. Towel rail on full in bathroom, could not turn down and the heat was stifling. Room very tatty, holes in chairs, stained sofa and sheets, broken picture frame laying on window sill, stained lamp shades, generally grubby and old and not... More

Dog friendly with plenty of space in rooms. Breakfast served in lounge/day room so that our spaniel could be with us. Decent meals in the pub area where dogs allowed. Would recommend this hotel to dog lovers. Parking may be a problem at peak times of the year
