Just spent two nights here at the hotel with my wife. Grasmere is a lovely place and this hotel is positioned in a perfect place just off the square. The hotel is homely with a comfortable lounge and bar area. Our room had an excellent view of the surrounding Lake District scenery . Free Wi Fi in the room was... More

We arrived on Friday afternoon to a lovely welcome from the lady on reception. Following a short walk and a couple of very nice pints at the Badger at Rydal Mount we returned to the hotel for Dinner. Other than a minor misunderstanding the service was excellent and the food was even better. I would recommend anyone should add this... More

From the moment we arrived we were impressed by the relaxed, friendly and efficient service. Our room was very comfortable indeed. After reading Jay Rayner's review of the restaurant, our expectations were high. The wonderful tastes, quality of produce and beautifully skilful presentation ensured that we were not let down. This is classy stuff! The unpretentiousness of this place is... More

We stayed after hearing so much about the standard of food at the Oakbank and were certainly not disappointed. From the fresh milk provided in the rooms - along with freshly baked shortbread and a little decanter of sherry, to the amuse bouches that preceded the main meal, we realised that this was going to be something special. The plates... More

To celebrate my wife's birthday we returned to the Oak Bank, accompanied by my daughter and son-in-law for two nights. We received the usual warm welcome from Glyniss and Simon who advised my wife and I that we had been upgrade for the duration of our stay to the Acorn Suite. The room was excellent, with a huge comfortable bed and... More

Other recent reviews say it all and I fully endorse them. The Oak Bank is friendly and relaxed, and the meals were the highlight - very high quality, beautifully presented. I can't think of a good reason to stay anywhere else in Grasmere.

Three girlfriends and I stayed at the Oak Bank hotel in Grasmere at the end of our 4-day trekking holiday, having walked from just outside Keswick. We arrived very tired and very wet, and were met with a very warm welcome. We had booked two twin rooms, one superior (room 15) and one standard (room 6a). Both rooms were very... More

We chose to stay at the Oak bank mainly because of the reviews on this site and we were not dissappointed. The hotel itself is a typical small Lake Distict hotel built out of the local slate and from the exterior hasn't changed much since the last time we stayed there over 25 years ago. What sets this hotel apart... More

We really enjoyed our four-night break, in celebration of our 35th wedding anniversary. The owners and staff were friendly and attentive, but not too formal, which made for a relaxed and happy atmosphere. Breakfast was a marvellous start to the day, excellent variety. The evening meals looked and tasted wonderful. We loved the homemade shortbreads and glass of sherry renewed... More
