We took over the hotel over for the whole bank holiday weekend in May to celebrate a "big birthday". The Wordsworth was the perfect choice. The food was ideal for the occasion from a high tea for the small children to a formal dinner and also a buffet which was exceptional. The rooms were comfortable and homely. What we will... more

Due to the lack of availability in Grasmere on a Saturday night, we booked the first room we could get and therefore hadnt checked TA as we would normally do. Having read the reviews before the visit, I was expecting the worse however the hotel was very nice! Yes, its chintzy but it doesnt claim to be a modern boutique... more

Perfect location with charming and considerate staff who were unfailingly polite and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable; not only were the beds made up in the morning but also turned down in the evening. Dinner in the hotel was made into a relaxing and pampered occasion with excellent canapes, amuses bouches and ample choice on the menu. The pool... more

We went to this hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary. It is set in a beautiful location. We could not fault the staff, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel itself does need quite abit of attention, our bedroom was just average though the bed was very comfortable. We have been to many hotels over the years and you always... more

Having read the latest review on this hotel and the comments from the hotel, I have to agree that the Wordsworth is in a terrible state of repair. It is very run down, over priced and lacked quality, we stayed here for our anniversary and was greatly disappointed. The room was also filthy. Avoid at all costs! more

Given the wonderful location in Grasmere and the potential of this hotel, it is so disappointing to see such a wasted opportunity. We had planned a long weekend for a family holiday for grandparents, parents and grandchild to revisit a hotel which had given so much pleasure in the past. Grasmere and the Wordsworth's location and website promised much. What... more

Nothing we did for him would stop him whingeing. There was nothing wrong with the light fitting other than his inability to understand the switching, and this was soon dealt with. His complaint about the mattress is totally untrue - the mattress in his room, as in all other rooms, is a top quality hand-made mattress. In an effort to...

Celebrated New Year at this hotel and it was lovely. Cannot praise the staff enough. Mostly european who worked extremely hard to please everybody which they did in abundance. The food was excellent and also the wine list. Plenty of Champagne served before each evening meal. The hosts Mr & Mrs Gifford, especially Mr Gifford who went out of his... more

As an extension to our honeymoon my wife and I decided to take a trip to 'The Lakes' We chose the Wordsworth for its location and ameneties and what a great decision it was. We were checked in by the receptionist who then took us to our room who made polite conversation on our way telling us proudly she had... more

It only happens at my very favorite hotels . . . . a real fire blazing in the hearth, to greet you in the lobby. Another one going all day long in the pub! I have stayed at the Wordsworth Hotel for years, now (and at the ultra-classy Michaels Nook, run by the same owners, before that), and I don't... more

I have been coming to this hotel for many years and in November I organised a four day stay for a large group. Everyone I spoke to was very complimentary about the hotel and the location is perfect. The staff, as always, were incredibly helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food is excellent. I have made another six... more
