This property is in a wonderful setting just outside Grasmere. The grounds are extensive with beautiful views of the hills in every direction and a farm with sheep on one side. Afternoon tea and cakes is offered to all guests free of charge. The rooms are very large and comfortable. Very pleasant staff.

My wife and I stayed at Glenthorne in early May. It's a great location but they could do so much better with imagination and effort. Breakfast was a strict half hour from 8.15 to 8.45. Eggs were only made a certain way on one day and not another. Staff seemed bored. I'm a Quaker but you really don't always have... More

Dear Simon, Thank you for your review. I am sorry we didn't live up to your expectations. Unfortunately we are a Guest House and as such don't have the resources to be as flexible as a hotel, or the facilities to be a care home, although we are disabled friendly. As we are a Quaker establishment, it is customary to... More

Glenthorne is less than half a mile up Easedale Road, leading out of Grasmere village on the way to Easedale Tarn. A great location, with good views in all directions. It began life as the home of a wealthy Quaker carpet manufacturer who gave it to the Religious Society of Friends. It has had many upgrades over the years to... More

The location here is lovely. However the toilet in our bathroom was filthy and our room was very small.. We ate DBB and both our breakfast and dinner had very small portions. If you want very basic accommodation probably better to stay at YHA down the road which would b e a lot cheaper.

Firstly may I thank you for your review, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us. We have a very good reputation for cleanliness, so we're suprised to hear the toilet was filthy. If you had mentioned it to reception we would have been able to rectify the matter. We charge £17.00 for a 3 course dinner with coffee... More

I was here for a weekend with a group. A good time was had by all. The Glenthorne is conveniently situaited close to the village and is perfect as a base for walking, shopping or visiting nearby sights such as Dove Cottage. My room was very nice (ensuite) with a comfy bed and tea making facilities. Breakfast was full English... More

I haven't stayed here for many years, but have such vivid memories of some great walking holidays whilst staying at Glenthorne. The views from the hotel and nearby are spectacular and it was always very comfortable and friendly. A McCarthy

Stayed just one night during my C2C walk. Nice clean place. Nothing bad about it. Good location if one is doing theC2C walk. Town center is just a short walk away where several nice restaurants are located.

I stayed here whilst doing the C2C. It was immaculate, and yes, the annex is a bit institutional, but it is a Quaker house, and it was actually more comfortable than I expected. The room was small but functional, the food was very good (although I agree that the tiny plates were frustrating at breakfast) and the company was vary... More

OK but could be much better with a little effort. Rather 'institutional' and would be much improved with some homely touches - and ditch the plastic flowers. Food okay. But cramming breakfast on to tiny plates does not full anyone into thinking that its a reasonable portion. Pack lunches looked mediocre so don"t bother. They don't change the towels so... More
