The first thing to say is that this is not a hotel in the traditional sense. I got my room through LateRooms but - I think - the whole house is rented out by the National Trust to HF Holidays. I assume HF had an unfilled room and made it available through the LateRooms website. So most of the other... More

Stayed here for a hiking weekend with a walking club in Autumn. My room was in an adjacent cottage with a communal bathroom and wc.(Both of which need up-dating.)The bedroom was old-fashioned, being single-glazed ,but comfortable and clean. It was complete with tv. tea and coffee facilities and small sink. The beds were comfy with duvets. The main building includes a large lounge and... We received a friendly welcome on arrival and we were shown to our large double ensuite room. We were very comfortable and warm. The place was filled with character and lots of artwork on the walls. The residents lounge had a superb view over lake Coniston and you could also see the beautiful grounds that Monk Coniston occupies. Breakfast was... More

It was a comfortable hotel, good sized room and a nice view too. Bathroom clean and tidy. Very good facilities. Staff very friendly and good with kids. Food excellent throughout our short stay. My daughter loved the desserts.

I organised a walking holiday for myself and 10 friends from Ryedale Walking Group in May 2012. We used the HF Hotel at Monk Coniston as a base. The grounds were beautiful and lead down to Conistonwater itself. A footpath leads from the back gate to either Coniston village or you can walk from there right into Grizedale Forest. The... More

Monk Coniston house stands in its own grounds at the head of Lake Coniston. From the dining room or lounge you can look out across the lawn to the lake in the distance. If you are lucky enough to have one of the rooms at the front of the building you also have a lovely view. We stayed at this... More

It is not a luxury hotel but very adequate, clean, full of charm and history. We stayed in an upgraded room, and were very comfortable. The dressing gown and slippers were a nice touch, as was the generous supply of coffee and tea in our room. The food was of a very good quality. We enjoyed every course we were served... More
