Excellent food & service, very welcoming staff, good selection of Lake District ales & great pub grub. Very dog friendly, will definitely be back. Only called in for soup at lunch time but was so nice we went back for an evening meal too.

I had visited the inn a couple of years ago on a day visit to Coniston, a couple of beers and a delightful lunch on a sunny November day stayed with me. On that occasion I was fortunate enough to experience the powerboats trying for speed records on Coniston Water. Two years later, and I'm staying at the inn for... More

We have stayed here in the past being regular visitors to the Lakes and it is a really nice place to stay and eat at. The evening meals are either a la carte or off the specials daily board. To order a meal, you have to select a table and order and pay for it at the bar. The bar... More

Very disappointed in this hotel. Stayed here for three nights in early Nov. Although we were never treated badly, we were never made to feel welcome. Room had bath only, no shower, one bedside lamp not working, we informed staff but nothing was done about it. No tv remote control. It's a pet friendly hotel, fair enough, but the smell... More

Stopped off in Coniston for Sunday lunch. Service was quick, food was well cooked & hot. I had homemade steak & ale pie, delicious! Vegetables were freshly cooked not soggy. Rest of family had Waberthwaite Sausage, half a chicken & Scampi & no complaints. Will be going back

We took my large weinmaraner dog for a walking holiday , staying at The Black Bull inn on a friend recommendation. We weren't disappointed with anything ! The friendly atmosphere and delicious food in front of a log fire was lovely , everyone was so helpful . We had Bluebird cottage at the rear of the pub . Excellent for... More

We stayed here at the end of October and although the weather wasn't too great, the Pub was. What a lovely warm, cosy place this was to come back to. The food was excellent. My daughter and partner were particularly happy to get a good vegetarian lasagna for supper and veggie sausage to die for (apparently) with their breakfast. They... More

I stayed here in September while walking the Cumbria Way with my dog. Having just finished a 16 mile walk this was a veritable oasis, 6 of their own ales on draft, nice food, warm welcome. The place is very dog friendly, I was given directions as to how to get out and back in the late evening if I... More

The Lake District in October often means rain and so it was ... so where is the pub? We had walked around Tarn Hows (again - well its short and safe in the pouring rain!) and headed for respite in Coniston and the Black Bull. Been before and we knew what to expect - a warm welcome with good beer... More

We stopped here for lunch and it was really good. The real Ales are lovely Two Pints of Bluebird went down nice. We had the Lamb Hot Pot and the local sausage and mash for lunch which was amazing. Highly recommended
