Visited without booking but soon found a table. Great menu choice plus specials board. I had whitebait and plaice special.....both delicious, could probably have shared whitebait. Husband had soup and hot pot. Children had chicken and burger. Although we all struggled to finish food was delicious and enjoyed by all. Staff really friendly and husband loved the ale. Definitely worth... More

Arrived at 1730 on Sunday and fortunately for me they had some roast beef left on the menu. Dry banter from the chappie behind the bar and a pub full of smiling people who were all so friendly. The Roast arrived and was delicious, husband had the burger which he said was lovely to. Dog was given some beef leftovers... More

If you are after great food then this is the place for you..Beware of unfriendly staff if you are a tourist. A group of us visited the Black Bull a couple of days ago and on entry to the pub we were firstly ignored, then after about 10 mins of waiting the bar staff asked what we wanted as she... More

I have been waiting for this review ,when you came in staff were busy with other customers so I accept you had to wait for a few minutes.your comment on no one asking if you wanted to order it clearly states on menu to order at the bar.The drinks were taken when outside having a cigarette ,coats were not on... I have previously written a great review for this gorgeous pub, I'd just like to add that although a lot of pubs accept dogs, this is very dog friendly, and I have never seen this pub without at least 3 dogs in.the staff bring water for them, and are lovely to every dog. Don't let the fact that they accept... More

Walked here from our hotel, waterhead hotrl, took just 10 minutes. Nice walk too but torch recommended at night to avoid treading in something unpleasant. Pub has a microbrewery. My hubby doesn't drink ale but tried a pint and loved it!!! The food was tasty, hot and we'll presented. Good service with a smile too. Great prices. Would definitely return

My wife and I have just come back from a New Year break, staying at the Black Bull. It was booked as a 3 night package over the holiday period, including bed, breakfast and evening meal. I must say the food and accommodation were excellent helped by the very friendly staff who were available for any queries you may have.... More

Excellent food & service, very welcoming staff, good selection of Lake District ales & great pub grub. Very dog friendly, will definitely be back. Only called in for soup at lunch time but was so nice we went back for an evening meal too.

I had visited the inn a couple of years ago on a day visit to Coniston, a couple of beers and a delightful lunch on a sunny November day stayed with me. On that occasion I was fortunate enough to experience the powerboats trying for speed records on Coniston Water. Two years later, and I'm staying at the inn for... More

We have stayed here in the past being regular visitors to the Lakes and it is a really nice place to stay and eat at. The evening meals are either a la carte or off the specials daily board. To order a meal, you have to select a table and order and pay for it at the bar. The bar... More

Very disappointed in this hotel. Stayed here for three nights in early Nov. Although we were never treated badly, we were never made to feel welcome. Room had bath only, no shower, one bedside lamp not working, we informed staff but nothing was done about it. No tv remote control. It's a pet friendly hotel, fair enough, but the smell... More
