Having visited the Black Bull many, many times for beer and food I finally got to stay there as well. A small group of old friends met up for two days and the Black Bull made us very welcome, fed us well and provided their excellent trade-mark Bluebird beer and a good range of wines for us to drink. Starting... More

This is by far one of my favourite pubs, they have a wide range of Ales. It is also a great place to rest on a nice summers day with a pint and some nice food and watch the world, or should I say Coniston, pass by. The staff are fantastic also, very chatty and willing to please. But Shhh,... More

We stayed here for 1 night back in January 2015 (much delayed review!) and had a brilliant cosy stay. It is a very traditional pub with a great cosy feel. Log fire, an array of fine ales from the Coniston Brewing Company. The pub and rooms are basic but very nice. For the price, we were very happy. The location... More

Good traditional hotel/pub accommodation. The Property is unique and quirky. Our room was traditionally decorated, had windows on 3 walls, a four poster but a modern refitted bathroom. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed a great breakfast on both days. We got extremely wet on one day having been up the old man of Coniston and did struggle to... More

I'm actually in the Bull as I write this review!Last night we are here.I had scampi and chips £10.95 (I know I know I pushed the boat out!)My food was fine.Overpriced but fine. My friend had lamb steak £17.85.The dauphinoise potatoes were a baby portion the asparagus was touch as old boots along with her lamb.We complained and she was... More

Been waiting for this review has that was their parting threat. So lets have the facts first, yes they ordered scampi and lamb, ate all the food and then complained lamb was tough but ate it all ,we offered a free dessert but they said no .Then came back next night to try again ,I politely pointed out had they told us... Bluebird is one of the best english bitters you will get and it is at home here. Number 9 barley wine is less well known but equally good. You can get both in bottles too. We are not in fine dining territory here but it is good pub food with a range of standards and specials on the go. Caters... More

Brewed out the back of the pub, the beers are spot on. I particularly liked their stout. A varied and interesting menu but, like EVERY pub in the lakes, the bar food is pricey relative to places which don't have their enviable position. We ate in three of the pubs in the village during our stay and they were the... More

It's taken me six months to write this review, so it's possible the B&B has improved. But when we stayed the room felt extremely tired and dated and really not worth the nightly charge. The bathroom had been recently upgraded, so they're clearly aware that the hotel is old and tired now, but the room itself was really not what... More

Had a meal here on 10th November. Quite busy for a Tuesday night in November in Coniston. Bluebird bitter and nice meals. I had fish, chips and mushy peas. The fish and mushy peas were very good the chips were OK but disappointing, obviously just plain old frozen chips. Pretty boring even as frozen chips go. My husband had a... More

Nice pub, welcoming, good atmosphere. Accept dogs in lounge area. Have own microbrewery on site which produces excellent beer. Well worth a stop if you visit the village. Free wifi. We did not eat here but looked good menu with typical pub fare.
