This was my fourth visit to the Lakes in consecutive years and the third time staying at YHA Coppermines and every time, we get a warm welcome. The staff put in so much effort to make sure their guests are happy and enjoying their stay. Being a small hostel up a mountain, there is certainly a communal sense around the... More

This was the third time we'd been to this hostel - we went when Ben & Katy were in charge in 2013, Mark & Cat in 2014 and Andy & Sarah this year. All of them were really nice and really helpful! The scenery surrounding the hostel is stunning, but be prepared for a bumpy ride if driving up to... More

Dear Ross, Thank you for your review and so glad your third time at Coppermines was as good as the rest and that you enjoyed the food. Unfortunatly there isn't anything we are able to do about the road as the mountain weather and large vehicles don't help. But glad the rest of your stay was enjoyable. We look forward... More

For any of you taking part in the L100 Ultra race this Summer and need a training base this is the perfect place to stay being a stones throw from the Walna Scar Road and about a mile up the Old Man from the official start line in Coniston. The welcome from Sarah and Andy was friendly and even though... More

This is a lovely hostel, up the hill outside Coniston. All the facilities a walker could want. Great hospitality, very fiendly helpfull staff who made a fab supper. Although it meant an extra mile on the walk from Ulverston, it was well worth the effort.

I stayed in this hostel in December for one night. Having walked 18 miles from Ulverston to Coniston I did not like walking an extra mile and a half from the warm pub to the hostel (my original booking had been for the hostel in Holly How in Coniston) It was however worth it, a lovely place with great facilities... The hostel is in an exciting position part way up the mountain of Coniston Old Man. It's reached by a rough track and is about a mile from the village. The building itself is a nice old slate building (was home of mine manager). The best features are the large communal kitchen/dining area and a cosy communal room with plenty... More

This is about 1.5 miles out of the centre of Coniston up an unmade road. There is a sign near the start of the track that says something like the road is for residents only. Don't be put off - you're on the right track. But do drive slowly. I got a puncture but Kat who works at the hostel... More

Very beautiful place to stay in, going to it gave us a thrill. Staying there gave us the quite and touch we needed with nature. Walking to it after our meal in town was very peaceful. Very helpful staff, the food (breakfast) was really good, and I may or may not get this service if I have been to five... More

It is set amongst the most stunning scenery and the couple who run it are super helpful. We needed help with various issues that arose and Kat really couldn't have done more to help. Oh and the coffee is the best around!
