Stayed for a weekend in early April 2014 with a group from my local church. We took over the whole hostel and had a great time. Weather was somewhat less than average, but the hospitality, food and general environment of the hostel more than made up. The facilities are quite straight forward, but the setting on the lower slopes of... More

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience. We agree that our location is very special indeed! Ideally located for a number of awe-inspiring walks, and a good, warm and inviting base to fuel up for the fells, or to wind down in the evening with a delicious meal and a local ale. We are happy... Just spent an amazing couple of days at the YHA Coniston, Coppermines. A brilliant experience, stunning scenery and environment. The staff (Phil, Mark, Mandy and Eric), were superb and couldn't do enough for us. This included ghost stories and a ghost hunt which was great fun. The food was first class and there was plenty of it. Value for money,... More

With any luck, if you are visiting the Lake District you won't mind a good walk. That's exactly what it was like getting to the hostel, if not driving and not as hardy as I would consider myself, the access to the hostel might be daunting as it is a good 2 mile walk up a gravel track up a... More

Been a member of YHA for years, used to go a lot more often when kids were young or I just needed to get away. Never been to Coniston before but this hostel is superb, so clean and the food to die for. I was actually helping out as a volunteer but you could see the staff knew exactly what... More

Ben and Katy were helpful, friendly, flexible and very efficient before and throughout our stay which made us feel relaxed and welcome. Our numbers grew but this was not... More

We paid £68 for a 4 bed room, only 2 of us were staying as friends dropped out but if you got 4 it would be great value for money. On arrival the chef Katy checked us in, she was friendly and helpful, so was Ben arriving later asking us about where we had been etc. showing a friendly interest... More

Myself, wife and young daughter stayed here for the weekend and it is lovely. Basic, as to be expected, but cosy, clean with friendly and helpful staff. Lovely cooked breakie and evening meal. The location is ace. The lounge was cosy and very pleasant, plenty to read and games for the children and not-so-young kids ;) If I had anything... More
