I stayed here with my father for one night whilst walking the Cumbria Way. We stayed in room number 4, and it was excellent. The bathroom is particularly large and spacious. We ate at the Sun in the evening, and then had breakfast the following morning. The evening meal was good value. The breakfast was generous, with a very good-sized... More

Stayed here for a weekend to sample The Lakes. Pretty standard, a little rough around the edges but the beds are the most comfortable I've slept in. A great place to stay to experience what The Lakes have to offer, but don't expect too much.

Stayed here on a weekend away with the OH who dragged me up some hills out back. It was a lovely hotel, fantasic food (can thoroughly recommend the steak and ale pie!!). The rooms were well appointed with amble sized bathrooms! My only two complaints are that the pipes are quite noisy and the barstaff poured too many drinks down... More

We ate here on the last day of our holiday and to be honest wish we hadn't! We thought the place look lovely and wanted to try it.... nobody was inside (we should of taken the hint) The food was average, too expensive for what it was. My Mum ordered a vegetarian meal, at the end of it she saw... More

Hotel of 2 halves whilst I agree with other reviewers to some degree with so what about the peeling wallpaper, skirting boards and window frames which need painting etc when you have a really comfortable clean king size bed and massive bath and plenty of hot water I can’t help feeling this hotel is letting itself down by skimping on... After a long walk on the Coniston Fells we popped in for a drink. There was a reasonable size car park available and we walked into the bar. It was quiet but as it was a sunny day there were a few more outside. Not anywhere near as busy as the Black Bull just down the road though. As we... More

We didn't eat in the restaurant except for morning breakfast. Primarily we were looking for a comfortable place to sleep after a day of hiking. Compared to other hotels and B&Bs in the Lake District, the Sun Hotel provided probably the largest bedroom and bathroom, and we also had a bathtub. Everything was clean and comfortable.

We stayed here for one night in a family room. The evening meal for myself and the children was lovely my husband would have liked some steak on the menu but he is a massive meat eater. The room was clean and the beds were so comfortable yes it was quite traditional in the decor but the views were spectacular... More

Myself and two friends went for Sunday lunch. We each had different meals all of which were served at different times, mine first, one of my friends 10 minutes later and my other friend a grand total of 50 minutes later, despite us being on the same table. The food quality was poor, I had the veggie option which was... More

We are regular visitors to Coniston and have stayed at the black bull many times and once at the crown...The Sun is by far the worst!!! We have just returned from a 3 night break here with our springer spaniel! I booked by phone and was quoted £260 for the 3 nights inc the dog, by bar manager, Karl. When... More
