clean and well equipped just as hostels need to be. Busy fully booked. Wifi in the lounge is good if no one else around then it goes in and out but great to just update . Tv room non available most evenings as teams of people in there doing talks and presentations and when finally got in last night couldn't... More

We book the entire hostel for 2 one-week long field excursions for our first year geoscience students. The hostel is virtually ideal - we get breakfast and evening meal, good food served quickly. There is room to work and to relax, a drying room that works, and a reasonable number of showers etc. There is even a bar, though with... More

It's stuck up a hill far from the madding crowd...Many hostel types reside at this place. This is not a hotel..Facilities basic but clean..Rooms a little chilly..Would be good for school trips..The picture is'nt representative as it was a summers day;)

Have stayed at Holly How twice now, the first time in a private room, most recently in a shared dorm. We've always just been passing through and had breakfast elsewhere, so can't comment on the food but it's a lovely building, the beds are comfortable, the showers are decent, and the staff are friendly. We arrived fairly late and the... More

From arrival to departure the staff here were great. They helped organise a meeting area and meals around our needs. A menu was also given to us to choose from for our evening meal before we arrived to choose from. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and plenty of had plenty of space. The rooms did have bunk beds which... More

It's what you need from a hostel. I was there when it was very quiet (only 5 guests at the hostel that night) so I had a lovely peaceful time. I may not enjoyed my time as much had the hostel been much busier but my experience early this month was very positive. The hostel building isn't amazing but my... More

We stayed at Holly How hostel last week with 58 ten year olds as part of a school residential trip. We were greeted with a really warm welcome by Glenn, the hostel manager, who filled us in on all aspects of Holly How's operation - facilities, meals and other services. All members of staff were so kind and great with... More

Prices were hiked for the Bank Holiday weekend to £25 per night ( inclusive of VAT). I wouldn't have minded paying the price if I had got value accommodation for that - 8 bedded dorm is definitely not it, without breakfast ! Breakfast can be bought for £6- vegetarian option available. It's ok. Dinners are offered at a price ,... More

Just had a great weekend in this YHA property. The web site gives all the practical details about the place but you also need to know that Glen and the team are very welcoming, helpful and make the stay a pleasure. Also if you are looking for to eat and drink out then I highly recommend the Black Bull Hotel... More
