After getting totally lost on a mammoth walk and descending the mountain behind Holly How via a perilous and completely incorrect route, we arrived here sweaty and extremely relieved to find this little gem! We were welcomed by the friendly staff who were very sympathetic... The room was great, with a sink, comfy bed and even a wardrobe (luxury for... More

Location is bit away from main city, but near to nature. Can avail the tent facility. However we used the hostel rooms as didnt plan for tent camping. Very good accommodation option considering the price band. Clean and neat hostel. Food quality was also good.

This is massive YHA in the coniston. You can also get an option for tent and barbecue. The management is very friendly and supportive. Just self service kitchen is having all old and very less utensils. Apart front his everything else is grate. Very big dinning place and massive reading place. I recommend this YHA and other benefits is this... More

Thanks for your review - yes you can book camping online this year through the YHA website. Most campers take our meals - the reviews here show they are popular. Our self catering kitchen is quite basic, but why not treat yourself and eat with us next time! We are looking forward to the summer sun when you can sit... More

My partner and I stayed here for 1 night when walking the Cumbria Way. We stayed in beds in separate single sex dorm rooms. The room I was staying in had 8 beds but which were well spread out and all beds had individual lamps. The beds were comfy and the heat in the room good. I slept well (unusually... More

Thanks for your review - we are pleased you enjoyed your stay. The wifi has been a long time coming so we are really thrilled to have it at all! The reason coverage is limited is the thickness of walls in this wonderful 150 year old building. Next time you stay - why not try our meals - it is... More

Great hostel, great location - I hope they don't sell it off like they have with so many other great hostels. Bit of a walk to the pub - ok on the bike, but bumpy track - handy for a walk up Coniston Old Man.

I have recently returned from a long weekend staying at this YHA in coniston. This was a hostel with the typical facilities geared for outdoor adventurer. Which suited my needs after a wet day on the fells. The quality of the food was excellent, from wonderful homemade soups, home made cakes, hearty freshly cooked breakfasts and an evening menu which offered... Very welcome retreat at the end of a day's walking! Warm and cosy. Beds comfy and linen spotless. Self catering kitchen had all we needed, good system of labelling food. TV room was comfy and a bar was great for a tipple without having to stir out, would recommend it highly

We slept in separate dorm rooms as there were no 2 bed rooms available. Hostel appeared a little understaffed. Check-in was efficient but not particularly friendly. Good drying room. Members kitchen tucked away but OK. Showers lacked any water pressure. Its a little bit out of the village so if you've walked here consider buying your food before you arrive... More

Thank you for your review. A large number of people on the Cumbria Way find day one of the walk very exhausting and arrive worn out - however I am sure our new bunks were very comfortable. You mention shopping for provisions but our meals service as reviewed here on Trip Advisor is very highly rated! It is unfortunate you... More

Brilliant friendly and clean hostel. Good food and self-catering facilities - all we could ask for when heading for some hill walking. Breakfast a treat and good value. Common areas clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

A comfy & well-equiped youth hostel with spacious dorms and a very nice common room. Good food. A 5-min walk to the village centre. The bus to Ambleside, Windermere & Kendal passes 2mins walk down the lane.
