Stayed with three friends for one evening last week. Good location, the weather was cold and wet which I think put a dampener on the atmosphere within the hostel which wasn't their fault. Drying room very good, all three of us ate in the hostel & have to say that we thought the food was of excellent quality & value... More

Thanks for your review - I am glad the weather didn't dampen your spirits! It's also great that you enjoyed our food. The black pudding starter and our burgers with homemade chips are amongst our best sellers! We hope to see you again sometime! More

Picturesque elevated setting just a short walk from village, with ample parking. Also straight out the back to footpath/bridleway up to Old Man/Coppermines. Nicely proportioned rooms in old building with lawned garden and well treed grounds. Room for 8 was a good size, warm and with new comfortable bunk beds and individual reading lights over. Lots of handy separate clean... More

Thank you for your very kind review - we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Staying there as part of a group. Apparently it is only open at the weekends during the winter, which does make sense. But it appears they only put the heating on during the Friday afternoon. There were a couple of families there with young children, and EVERYBODY ended up wearing outdoor jackets indoors The hostel itself is very good, clean with... More

Thanks for your review - the heating is actually on all week, but when the place is empty we do have to turn it down slightly as our kerosene bill is huge. However it does run fully even if just one guest is staying. Double glazing would be a great improvement I agree. We have so many large windows that... More

Holly How is a splendid venue perfectly located near Coniston village and water (minutes walk) at the foot of the Coniston range which includes the 'Old Man'. The quality of meals and service is exceptional and I will definately stay in future. Minor niggles are quality of shower rooms (could be better) and that my room was unsecured during my... More

I've just returned from holly how YHA with 40 university students. The uni have used holly how as our perfect base for a week of activities for several years but this was my 1st time. Phil & team didn't fail to impress with the best hostel meals I've ever had - spoilt every night with 3 courses of incredibly tasty... More

Brilliant first accomodation on our Hike through the Lake District. Even though the venue could do with a makeover, our stay was absolutely brilliant with good facilities, excellent breakfast, close proximity to town centre of Coniston, super friendly staff... Nothing more to add! Recommendable +++

This was my first time visiting a YHA so I didn't really know what to expect. The rooms were small and functional as I expected (we stayed in a 4 berth which comprised two bunks and a wash basin). There were clean and plentiful shared showers and toilets, a large canteen, bar, a reading room/lounge and a games room. Also... More

Thanks for your review - it was a great atmosphere over Easter with all the families. Everyone from guests to staff played a part in making it a success. We're planning more free family evening activities over half term and the summer holidays. I think big screen Wii tennis could be a hit. The best way to keep in touch... More

I was running a trip to the lakes for a weekend of diving and needed accommodation for 13 people. The YHA's seemed like a good option and was proved right. From the time we arrived to when we left we felt at home and very welcome. The beds pretty comfortable and sturdy for bunks and the food was excellent -... More

Thanks for your review, Ian. We're really pleased you all enjoyed yourselves - our staff thought you were great fun. I think you are the first diving club we've had here - there's loads to dive as you discovered - Coniston Water, Hodge Close Quarry, Bannishead Quarry, and there's a scary account of someone diving a shaft in Coniston Coppermines...
