We were staying elsewhere and this place was recommended for food in the evening. We really enjoyed the food which is great locally sourced pub grub at its best. Great service and value for money. more

We have arrived home today after spending two perfect nights at the Kirkstile Inn for my boyfriend's birthday. The Inn is situated close to Loweswater in the most beautiful scenery and I managed to book the 4 poster room for both nights which was gorgeous (and no TV thankfully!) with a view of Melbreak which was to die for. We... more

We have just come back from a fantastic weekend in the lake district. As we had 3 children with us we wanted a fairly short walk and chose loweswater which is a small but beautiful lake. The kirkstile Inn was recommended to us to stop for lunch. The service and general attitude of the staff was so appaling I have... more

Arrived at 8.55pm, managed to get dinner. We weren't expecting too as dinner finished at 9pm. All the food was gorgeous as was the breakfast. A full cumberland breakfast with tea and toast. All the staff were welcoming and service was excellent. We stayed in a 4 poster room with views over the hills. The rooms did not have T.V... more

we visited this idyllic pub and found the landlord and some of his staff to be very inflexible. Day 1 we had lunch and it was lovely. The staff on duty were courteous and very friendly. Day 2 we arrived there for lunch (as the mid point of a 5 hour walk) at 1.55pm. We waited until 2.03 for our... more

The Kirkstile Inn is located in the quieter Western part of the Lake District and its ideal for a long weekend or a few days escape to the country. The Inn is set up well for walkers and other outdoor types - good hearty breakfasts, packed lunches available on request, a good evening menu in the bar / restaurant and... more

Fantastic location - if you want to be away from the shops and all the Windermere effects, this is the place to be! Short walk to Loweswater from this Hotel and not far from Buttermere and Crummock water and Ennerdale. Great Hotel - we had a brilliant view out of our hotel room!! The room was large and all very... more

Quiet country inn at secluded site in Lake District. Has a tiny brewery attached. Comfortortable rooms, lively bar, good food. Very quiet. Ideal for walkers. The inn is surrounded by fells and within walking distance of lakes Loweswater and Crummock Water. It is also about seven miles drive from Cockermouth - a pleasant town with lots of antique shops, crammed... more

the food is delicious (especially the cumberland sausage and chips!) and the setting is probably the nicest idealic view you can find, almost like a postcard looking up at the dramatic mountain, across a brook. the barman is incriedibly rude though, but it adds to the charm i guess, and you dont feel guilty for not tipping. more
