My partner his sister and I just returned from spending two nights at this inn. I am from the states and was a bit wary of staying at a b&b. but my sister in law booked this place for us and I could not have been more pleased. When we arrived Graham greeted us warmly even though he was just... More

Couldn't fault the food though we had to ask for apple sauce to accompany the pork and also request extra gravy. However the gentleman in charge did little to make us feel welcome, didn't engage in any conversation and didn't smile once. Sadly the atmosphere and people skills let this establishment down badly.

Rooms clean and well equipped, including en-suite facilities. Beds comfortable, if you first remove the plastic mattress protector. Welcome friendly and staff pleasant and helpful. Food: pub grub, and a bit pricy for quality, though ample portions. Surprisingly quiet despite main road location. Good place to stay for those with a teapot fixation!

First visit was great we went for Sunday lunch & because I enjoyed it decided to have another meal here during the week to celebrate my birthday, my partner & I had gammon & our relatives had steak pie & sausage (theirs actually looked nicer than ours). Gammon was tough, dry & had no flavour at all but we were hungry... More

Second trip to Cockermouth from Australia in two years and had no hesitation in booking a room again at the Old Posting House. Great welcome from Mick. Room was large and very clean. Food was great - portions a bit too large for me but my husband loved it. Yes, it's about 3 miles out of Cockermouth, but it was... More

Had a one night stay, mid June, found it on booking.com-good reviews and cross checked with Trip advisor-also good. Had contact from proprietor, Mick, about arrival time. Turned up as agreed and all good-rooms were looking fresh with nice bedding and good bathrooms. Food portions in the pub (below) were generous and tasty, good beer too. With a genial host to... More

I drove up to Whitehaven from the Midlands and needed somewhere to stay overnight. The reviews looked good so I booked. What a great choice! A warm welcome from Nick, very comfortable bedrooms and really good food. Beware though, the meals are huge! The breakfast was delicious despite still being full from the previous evening's supper. The Old Posting House... More

We stayed 2 nights in this lovely pub. The old posting house has a interesting history. The restaurant is interesting decorated with teapots, old photos, plate collections etc. The food was good. The accommodation I would recommend. The host was so helpful, kind and welcoming. Thanks for an enjoyable stay Mick. Ann & Murray NEW ZEALAND

I stay over in Cumbria Mon- Fri for work, and originally came to the OPH as a temporary escape from a crummy hotel in town, whilst I looked for something better. I was that impressed with the whole set-up that I stayed for the duration of my contract. The rooms are pleasant, the beds are comfortable, bathrooms spotlessly clean etc.... More

This was not my first visit for a meal and it won't be my last! To be honest I think this place could become a bit of a habit. . . I find the menu varied enough for whatever likes/dislikes you may have, or whatever mood you may be in, and the mini menu is superb if you don't think... More
