After staying for one night during the weekend of the Guy Fawkes festivities, we discovered that the Trout was the perfect location for watching the local fireworks display across the river. We stayed in one of the executive rooms with a balcony facing the river, which allowed us to view the fireworks from the comfort of our own room, with... More

Just back from a weekend stay at the trout hotel, it's truly amazing place. Staff v nice and welcoming, we had an executive room with river view- stunning -pure indulgence. I had dinner on 3 nights and can say its amongst the best food I ever eaten, such a pleasure dining in the Derwent restaurant. They really go above and... More

We have visited the trout regularly over the past 9 years for meals and well spending a quiet weekend away. Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Clean room, great service from staff and a lovely meal in the restaurant on the first night. The food and service was faultless! The breakfast (which we had delivered to our room) was... More

We actually stayed overnight in a quiet room at the back overlooking the river on this occasion. The room was very spacious & modern & the bathroom was lovely. As far as we were concerned the room had everything we needed (including hairdryer (ask for robes & slippers) & tea making equip't & a good flatscreen TV). The bar &... More

We were invited to a wedding at the Trout and stayed in a magnificent room overlooking the river. The wedding was super with excellent food and attention. I have eaten in the restaurant many times without cause for complaint. This is the first time I have stayed and was a little shocked at the high price especially when they were... More

Service was very poor. Did not feel welcome at all. Menu was a step up from a mall bar. Food took forever. Twenty minutes for a scotch egg!. Soup was tasty but the portion was small and the choice was tomato not very inventive. I think being the only joint in town stems the competitive edge a restaurant needs.

My wife is confined to a wheelchair, cannot stand unaided and needs the highest level of facilities in a disabled room; this has always been hard to find (to be honest, the best/most reliable has been Traveldoge/Premier Inn etc since you know exactly what you're getting). The Trout hotel disabled room (104 - don't know if there is another?) was... More

My wife and I have just returned from a one night stay at this great hotel. We just wanted to get away for a night on our own without kids and dogs, we were not disappointed. Our room was executive, fairly large, with all the usual bits and bobs and two armchairs. Reception staff on arrival were friendly and helpful.... More

My husband and I have just returned from the Trout Hotel in Cockermouth after a 2 night stay. We had been so looking forward to a couple of nights away and our first impression on arrival from promising, the decor was lovely and day 1's reception staff were very welcoming. We were shown to our room and that should really... More

We stayed here for one night to access walking in the Lakes. The room was well presented and recently refurbished. The breakfast was high quality and the standard of service was high. Good value and worth a look if staying in cocker mouth.
