We chose this guest house as we had heard from a friend that it offered a really good place to stay in a quaint and quiet location yet close to the village centre. The rooms were fresh and comfortable and the hosts (Julie and Nigel) did everything to make our visit a treat! Breakfast was great and set us up... More

My wife and I loved our stay at the Waterwheel in gorgeous Ambleside. It's a small but perfectly formed Bed & Breakfast, close to the centre of Ambleside, in a lovely quiet location. From the moment we arrived, nothing was too much trouble for hosts Nigel and Julie. Parking is free in the main car park in Ambleside with a... More

We loved our stay here. Small but beautifully presented rooms in 300 year old cottage. Very close to shops and restaurants but quiet location. Great attention to detail. Lots of thoughtful touches. Great hosts. We couldn't really ask for more.

We stayed here for 3 nights in June and we cannot recommend it enough. The picturesque location and charming accommodation make this the ideal place to stay in Ambleside(or the Lakes for that matter!). Julie and Nigel are the perfect hosts and a knowledgeable and helpful source of tourist information. The whole ambiance is friendly and relaxed and your day starts... More

We enjoyed a lovely 2 night stay here. The room and bathroom were very pretty and were both spotless. After a long day in the Lakes the shower was hot, the bed was soft and the glass of port and homemade cake were much appreciated. The welcome was lovely and the hosts were very accommodating when we required an early... More

We have just returned home for two lovely nights at The Waterwheel and we are already thinking about when we can book to go again! The Waterwheel is perfectly located in the centre of Ambleside and the lovely view from of room looking over the stream was really delightful. Our room (Stockghll), was very tastefully decorated with a really gorgeous... More

Stayed here for 2 nights. As everyone has said this place is amazing. The rooms and bathroom are really quirky and charming. There are lovely touches like Port in the room and home made cake. Yet, lets be honest other places do this. What makes this special are Nigel and Julie, we were made to feel like we were staying... More

I can only agree with previous review. This place is a wonderful little home from home with suprisingly spacious and exceptionally equipped en suite bedrooms. Located in a little backwater you wouldnt know was there but cannot be any more central im Ambleside.

What a fab place to stay. Couldn't be better placed, the heart of Ambleside. Very very nice and modern, superbly finished bedrooms and en-suite bathroom. Very welcoming with an excellent range of tea, coffee, herbal teas, biscuits and cake- all complimentary. Lovely posh soaps and shampoos too. Wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Ambleside other than the Waterwheel Guesthouse. We... More
