Arrived at the guest house by flowing the directions given (really easy to follow). Lovely location right in the heart of Ambleside, although you wouldn't know it as it's so quiet. We arrived and was greeted by Julie, who welcomed us and told us to come and go as we please and do as we would at home. The Waterwheel... More

We have been visiting Ambleside at least once a year for the last 10 years and I must say this is one of the best B&Bs that we have stayed in. The hosts were very welcoming and the breakfasts were superb. The room was a perfect size, tastefully decorated and the little touches like wi-fi, port and lemon cake in... More

Cannot fault anything about this lovely little B&B and would heartily recommend it to anyone visiting Ambleside. The roll top bath being the crowning glory for a long soak after the Windermere marathon. I may actually keep it secret so that we can come back whenever we want without having to wait for a free weekend!!

We can only agree with all the other reviews ....the location is central, the rooms are very well appointed, the extras (chocolate cake, port) are very welcome, the breakfast first class, the availability of walking books and maps helpful ... and finally, the hosts are most welcoming and friendly.

We had the pleasure of staying at The Waterwheel Guesthouse a few months ago. The B&B is in a fantastic location in the centre of Ambleside - within easy walking distance to shops, Lake Ullswater and nearby fells. The building has lots of character and the rooms are perfectly clean and well finished. Julie and Nigel were fantastic hosts and... More

Thanks again to Julie and Nigel for another great stay at the Waterwheel. They make the Waterwheel a wonderful place to stay, like a home from home. We've stayed in Rattleghyl and Loughrigg so far, both of which were very comfortable - loved the complimentary port in particular! Breakfasts were great - delicious cumberland sausages from the butcher up the... More

Another big thank you to Julie & Nigel for making our second stay at the Waterwheel so relaxing and enjoyable. Located on a cobbled street in the heart of Ambleside, the Waterwheel is full of character and inviting little touches that make it a perfect place to stay. The bedrooms are well furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean and the home... More

Fantastic stay, great location, warm hosts. Lots of nice touches made the stay very memorable, especially as got engaged whilst staying at B&B. We are also vegetarian which usually causes problems at breakfast and get subjected to dry muesli, however we were treated to full veggie fry-ups and fresh fruit with lashings of yoghurt. Just the ticket before a long... More

Just returned from a night at the waterwheel & got to say its one of the best b&bs we've stayed at. The welcome we received was so warm & friendly it was like visiting old friends. The location is perfect: quiet but in the heart of Ambleside, and the room we stayed in was cosy & relaxing. Breakfast was excellent,... More
