First time in youth hostel in UK - probably the last. Location is fantastic. Downstairs communal areas are fine. Staff were very helpful. BUT upstairs and rooms are awful. I have just returned from YHA Ambleside where I and 12 others were meeting for 2 nights. Although, luckily, the company was fantastic...the hostel was not. We were very surprised on arrival at how pretty the location was. The hostel has a lake front location, Our room had a lake view, which is pretty impressive considering it was a YHA. Having read the other review of this Youth Hostel I went with some trepidation, but need not have worried at all. The building is a large former hotel and to be fair, is looking rather worn.
