This was our second visit to Brathay, the last one being five years ago. My husband booked the trip as a surprise for our fifth wedding anniversary. We were given a so called "superior" room, which was on the third floor, in the attic! This was a hike, as there isn't a lift. The fire escape was a concern as... more

We recently stayed on recommendation at the lodge and the location was fantastic. We stayed in a four poster suite but really would not recommend paying the extra money for the four poster or suite. The rooms are all big so no need for a suite. Breakfast was a dissapointment - we knew it was continental but it was so... more

My wife and i stayed at the Brathay Lodge for a 2 day break in April. Our room was advertised as a 4 poster suite costing £100 a night and we were disappointed when we saw it. The decoration was very bland, the bathroom needed a complete overhaul (tiling, grouting, floooring, radiator), there was a large stain on one of... more

My wife and I went for a weekend in Ambleside a couple of weeks ago. We had stayed at Brathay Lodge a couple of years ago and it wasn't up to much but follwing a change of ownership, the hotel has been heavily refurbished and is now a great place to stay in the town. The location is great, it... more

Having previously visited Brathay Lodge on a neumerous of occasions over the last 5 years, we learned that the ownership had changed, there has been some very impressive changes especially on entering the lodge ,where you are greeted by a new reception area and friendly staff, the place as a whole feels more welcoming. The standard of cleanliness is as good as... more

The staff are friendly and helpful on arrival. The room was very clean and large. Breakfast was great (I know some people complain about lack of cooked breakfast but it didn't bother us). Lots of choice and everything was very fresh. Also, we weren't rushed to finish breakfast even though we were last there. DVD rental for use in the... more

We chose this place because it was "dog friendly" and in that respect it was terrific as was the welcome and the efficiency of the manager and his team. The breakfast lounge was probably the contemporary part as it was furnished in the same style as say the services on the motorway but the breakfast itself was perfectly acceptable as... more

As reasonably new owners of a Westie, my partner and I are realising how difficult it is to find quality accommodation when you have a dog with you. However, the Brathay Lodge is ideal. We stayed in one of the rooms accessed directly from the car park which was handy and the wood floor is great in case of accidents... more

My boyfriend and I (both 22) have stayed at the Brathay Lodge five times now, and each time we have had a lovely stay! We arrived early but our room was ready which was a bonus. The hotel is situated only a couple of minutes walk to the pubs and restaurants in Ambleside, all rooms have jacuzzi baths, are clean and... more
