Having stopped at the Old Vicarage many times in the past I decided we would return. To my surprise they would not even quote a price for a 2 night weekend stay. I was interested in booking one of the suites for 2 adults and 2 children, and was told that weekends are 3 nights minimum ! I could understand... More

We have just returned from a one night stay at the old vicarage. It was a wonderful resting place and our 9 month old dog was as welcome as we were. Breakfast was lovely and the room had a relaxing view. The spa bath and large bed were very welcoming after our afternoon walking. There is an extensive collection of... More

Having missed out on visiting the Lake District in 2013 we took advantage of the mid week offer to return to The Old Vicarage last week. As ever we received a warm welcome and enjoyed the comfort of the 'suite', the delicious breakfast and the relaxing pool/hot tub. This place is ideally situated for leaving the car in the car... Had a great two night stay. Staff made us and the dog very welcome.we stayed in a four poster room. It was clean and spacious. Breakfast was served in the conservatory as we wanted the dog with us. It was a great breakfast. Staff helped us choose good local restaurants. Altogether a lovely time.

Just returned from a two night break at this B&B. We had a relaxing time mainly due to the relaxing ambience of the old vicarage and the helpful nature of the staff. The décor could be seen as old fashioned but it is clean and in keeping with the property. The room we stayed in (the garden suite) was nice... More

What a great place for dogs and their humans, great location minutes from town centre and from walks onto the fells. A park on your doorstep for early morning doggy busines. Spacious room with large bed and there was plenty of space for our two large dogs. Fantastic staff and breakfast and a spa area .Highly recommend the really friendly... More

Let's start with the poor areas. Clump of hair lying by pool side under the window. Dog pooing by front door as leaving on Saturday morning. Woke to hear woman congratulating her dog for doing a poo by our ground floor bedroom window. Staff helpful but not that personable. Bathroom sink cracked - room 15 and no feminine hygiene bags... If you love the Lakes, want to stay somewhere special, want to take your dog with you, then look no further. Great location, lively rooms, and a swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi!! The owners and staff are always happy and welcoming. Stayed here twice now and will never look for alternative. Fab place.

Lovely spot close to Rothay Park and the town. You are welcomed by a lovely family who make you feel you are home from home. The rooms are lovely and dogs are allowed with you in your room and are free. Brilliant breakfast. For us, the best in Ambleside.
