Just returned from an amazing 3 night stay in the garden suite and can't wait to return (booked for September). Scrupulously clean, marvellous staff, total feeling of luxury. Fantastic location, gorgeous breakfasts and the added bonus of the pool area. It will definitely become one of our regulars. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

We have a lot of returning guests who consider themselves to be 'regulars' and we'd be delighted to add you to that list! We're absolutely delighted that you're heading back to the Lake District in September and we look forward to seeing you again then. Your comments are lovely to read and reassures us that the hard work we put... More

We have just returned from two nights here and would happily stay again. We (and the dog) were made very welcome. The room was generous and comfortable with nice little extras like the fridge and the hot tub was lovely. It would have been nice to have wi fi in the room but this is a very minor gripe.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our B&B. We're delighted you felt welcome and liked your room and the hot tub. WiFi is all rooms is proving a challenge with the thick walls of an Old Vicarage, but we're getting there! We really hope you're able to join us again in the near future. There are... More

A perfect location, hospitality at its best, COCO, our German short haired pointer, gives it a 5 star rating! Everything you may need is to be found within 5/10 minutes walk of The Old Vicarage in the beautiful village of Ambleside, not to mention the easy access to some of the most enchanting walks in the area. 5 nights were... We're graded as four star by VisitEngland, but if COCO says we're five star, then who are we to argue?! Thanks for your review. It means a lot that customers can come and stay for 5 nights and still go home happy! You're right about the walks too - there are lots of great walks where you don't even have... More

We stayed in the Garden Suite at the Old Vicarage, it was a beautiful suite with two floors and a balcony. The bathroom and the bedroom was modern and clean. Having use of the pool and sauna was a huge bonus and when we used the facilities (saturday night) the pool was empty. The service was fantastic, I really would... More

Ah - the garden suite! It's one of most popular rooms with plenty of space and a large decked balcony. Perfect for a seat outside and a glass of wine :) We're chuffed you enjoyed the swimming pool and the service - we really do hope you're able to return to the Lake District in the near future. Thanks for... More

we have just returned from a weekend break from this beautiful picturesque hotel which is situated close to all amenities. We had a lovely four poster room which was very comfortable with a jacuzzi bath! Very friendly staff who also offer extras such as ice and ice buckets free of charge so you can enjoy your own drinks in your... More

Thank you for your review and positive comments on the building, location, room and staff! Just to clarify for people reading your review, we're a bed and breakfast, not a hotel, but fortunately there is a good selection of pubs nearby, for those who fancy a drink, or as you did, simply bring a bottle along and we'll supply the... Spent a couple of nights at the Old Vicarage with my husband and our 2 dogs - what a treat. The staff were lovely, very friendly - and we felt right at home. The room was clean, spacious with fridge, tv, hairdryer, spa bath, very comfy bed - and tea/coffee making facilities. The location couldn't have been better, it was... More

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We're so pleased you 'felt right at home', as that's what we try to be at the Old Vicarage - a place to come to in a beautiful location where you immediately feel relaxed! We do find that many of our guests enjoy the pool and hot tub after a day... More

We have just spent 4nights at The Old Vicarage what a lovely treat! We were accompanied by our two dogs Jack and Sam. We were in The Garden Suite which had a separate entrance to the garden which was great for taking the dogs out as we did not have to disturb any of the other guests. It had a... More

Well thank you for such a positive review. The garden suite is very popular partly due to the large decked area (for when the weather is good) and the separate entrance. We're pleased you were able to make use of it! WiFi availability in the rooms does vary from room to room, mainly due the thickness of the walls. It... More

Me and husband stayed here March 2014 for 2 nights after our wedding as a gift from the inlaws. The staff were lovely, friendly and informed us of various places to visit. Our room was even ready over an hour early 😀. Breakfast was amazing and the facilities couldnt get better. Every little detail spot on. Just booked another short... More

We're looking forward to your return visit and can't thank you highly enough for your lovely comments! Your memory is obviously better than ours, but it's pleasing to know that the room, staff and breakfast have remained strong in your mind even after a year has passed. Lets hope a year of marriage has only enhanced your love of Ambleside... More

Thank you for your lovely comments, especially about the building. We think the Old Vicarage is pretty special architecturally and most people don't really mention it in TripAdvisor comments! You're also right about Ambleside's location, right in the centre of the Lake District - when we're working really hard, we sometimes need to remind ourselves how lucky to live here!... More

The family at The Old Vicarage are deserving of much credit. They are perfect hosts. They offer much warmth and kindness. But the hotel is so perfectly comfortable and intimate. Clean and well appointed rooms. My wife and I have visited the hotel for a number of occasions each year for 5 or 6 yrs now. It doesn't change and... More

Wow - 'perfect hosts'. We are always conscious that people have worked hard to earn the money to stay in the Lake District and we don't want to disappoint. The fact you've returned to us so many times reassures us that we are getting things right. We certainly won't rest on our laurels though and although the level of service... More
