As ever a very warm welcome from the staff at The Old Vicarage to the point that they feel like an extension of our family. We cannot praise the facilities, staff or location enough - It is a credit to all.

From the moment we arrived, Excellent hospitality, extremely welcoming and attentive to our needs, it's run by lovely people. Great breakfast served, great location with ample parking. Beautiful building and grounds right in the centre of Ambleside. Would definitely stay there again and recommend to friends and family. Found it a little bit more expensive than some of its counterparts... More

This is our second visit to the Old Vicarage and what a gem this place is. The Hotel is family run with Helen and Ian at the helm. From the moment we arrived on the 22nd we were made to feel very welcome by all the hotel waiting staff. Our room was of an excellent standard very roomy and clean.... More

It's difficult, finding a place to stay at late notice in Ambleside. I'm glad I spent time walking the streets to find a nice place. Off the main roads, the Old Vicarage is secluded and quiet, yet just a short walk from the heart of the town. With sauna, jacuzzi and pool, this place has what's needed to help you... More

The Old Vicarage is the most expensive B&B in Ambleside and unashamedly advertises itself as the best. It’s not by a long way. If you want a friendly B&B experience there are plenty of better choices in Ambleside. What you really get is an expensive Travel Lodge experience, which happens to be in a lovely old building in a wonderful... More

I have been travelling to the lakes for a good many years and I have stayed in a lot of lovely places and a few bad ones. I can say without reservation that the Old Vicarage is the best I have ever stayed in. The location is perfect, the building is charming inside and out and the staff were exceptional.... More

Wow - a 'six star' rating ... thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with everyone. We very much enjoyed having you to stay and are pleased you like our B&B. We'll admit to loving the building from an aesthetic perspective - it does take a lot of upkeep, but we think having that extra character (or 'charm' as... More

Well we can't do better than 10 out of 10! Thanks so much for all of your feedback - it useful and reassuring to us. We don't get that many people travelling by train/bus, but it is certainly no hardship - in fact it can often be more relaxing than hammering it up the motorway! You right about us not... More

We used Rm 3, their 'largest' room...it was not as clean as it should have been. Robes didn't match...one newish but shabby and one very shabby gown that had seen better days ten years ago. Spa area was filthy and the two relax chairs had covers on that had white tide marks on...very dirty. Tea and coffee facilities well below... More

Wow, we're really disappointed to hear your feedback. We've invested a huge amount in the Old Vic over the years and are really proud of it. The swimming pool, sauna and hot tub (not a spa) could not have been there when you came on your honeymoon (quite an expensive addition) and we have a very robust cleaning regime which... More

We had a great stay at The Old Vicarage. We were made to feel very welcome from the start, the dogs got spoiled by the owners. The breakfast is excellent. Room 11 is really comfortable, there are plenty of things for everyone to do in the Ambleside area.

Thanks for your review. Being family run, we do try to appeal to families, just as much as couples. Ambleside is a great base for entertaining kids and having the swimming pool at the Old Vic is an added bonus that not many B&Bs (or hotels) can boast! Being dog owners ourselves, we're very happy to have dogs to stay,... More
