Stayed for 2 nights as a part celebration for my wifes birthday.Very polite and attentive staff,,excellent food,,room very clean and comfy,,slightly dated but we didn`t stay in and look at 4 walls !! Set in a beautiful part of the lake district a few miles from Ambleside with fab scenery. We had room no 23 which was a fair trek on... More

We left Leeds expecting to go straight to a familiar Hotel in Ambleside, on Lake Windermere but shot past the place and within 2 miles on the Coniston Road I turned into this Hotel. I had no expectations but I thought I would go into reception and ask for three and four nights stay. They were completely full for the... More

Wonderful traditional Lakeland hotel, friendly and accommodating staff, very clean, real ales and excellent food. We ate in the restaurant, menu changed daily with lots of choice, bar food looked great although we stuck to the restaurant after a long day walking. First class we will be back!

It simply doesn't change for better or for worse, its still time warped, comfortable, old fashioned, under staffed but why, oh why, can't someone get a grip on the kitchen. They can produce reasonable bar food, but the restaurant is pathetic, cold unimaginative food in very hot dishes, if one has a choice I would prefer it the other way... More

Went to celebrate family birthday so new nothing about this hotel. Had an excellent weekend and highly recommend. Cannot fault this on any level and would return. Ate twice in the hotel which was good quality and we had great weather which allowed us to use the outside seating area

We visited for a two night stay with our dog. Before arriving I was a little nervous due to the price per night that the hotel wouldn't be up to a good standard ( other hotels in the lakes seem to charge more) It was exceptional.. Very clean both the room and public areas. Lovely breakfast with loads of choice... More

we stopped here on the off chance and were grateful that they had a vacancy. unfortunately it did not work out as well as we hoped. the room was ground floor and felt as if you were in the car park. worse was to come though. we opened the windows only to realise that the smokers were sitting nextto the... The first thing you notice is the superb setting and views. Unfortunately it was spitting with rain so we ate in the Talbot Bar (which is dog friendly). We wanted a light lunch so we opted for baguettes, 2 off the menu (Cumberland sausage) and 2 from the specials menu (beef). All were accompanied by a salad and all were... More

The staff at this hotel are amazing. Very attentive, helpful and cheery. We had half board with a huge room, super king size bed and good shower, just what you need after a day walking. The menu was different and interesting each night and the food was exellent. Huge variety at breakfast and enough to last the day.
