A very nice old hotel situated in the heart of the lake district. Great base to explore the surrounding hills and only a short drive to Ambleside and other towns. Service was excellent and the food very good. Bedrooms were very comfortable. Definitely would come again.

A late decision for a trip to the lakes landed us at this unusually located hotel which were still one of the few offering good reviews at a decent rate. But boy was this a gem of a find. The location is not too central but an easy drive from Ambleside and 30 minutes to Windermere. Your own car is... More

We have visited this hotel many times over the years. We hadn`t been in this area for some time and thought we would go back for a change. We had forgot how beautiful the area was and how relaxing the hotel is. We stayed in the garden room, which has beautiful views and a good size room and en-suite., very... More

Thanks for the great comments and have passed on you comments to Ursula who was delighted. We are decorating our bar lounge and corridors in November so are finally getting there. Hope to see you in October. More

Stayed with my son from 10th August - 13th August 2014. Ideally situated for walks throughout Langdale valley. Very polite and helpful staff. Relaxed surroundings. Bedroom was clean although there was a strange smell in the room, not sure what it was. The bedroom walls were thin so we could hear the raised voices of the people in the next... More

Thank you for your comments, we have investigated the smell but cannot find a thing but thank you for bringing it to our attention, we are in farming country so that could have been the issue. Glad you liked the food and hope to see you again More

Thanks for your nice comments, due to lovely weather the valley has been very busy and the odd walker has been using our car park instead of pay and display, we do try and monitor the situation even opening our fields for extra busy days for parking. If you visit us again we do have some lovely larger rooms so... More

A large group of us invaded the New Dungeon Ghyll for my sister's wedding on Saturday, and I can't fault it. I can't understand some of the previous comments on here about the staff, as they couldn't do enough for us when we were there - one even drove the bride and groom to their hotel after the wedding when... The customer care at New Dungeon Ghyll is fabulous. From the moment we arrived we experienced excellent service. The staff are friendly and really helpful, I also had some of the best vegetarian food I have ever had in the lakes, the burger and the chilli are home made and really delicious. The cider is great especially after a long... More

Firstly, I'll do the positives, the rural setting was idyllic and the room was large, clean and well equipped. The negative was the attitude of some of the staff. I would expect a three star hotel to provide breakfast before 8.00am especially as the hotel is used by many long distance walkers. A request for an earlier breakfast (even a... More

Thanks for your review, as mentioned before we do have a couple of new staff who did not think to ask about earlier breakfast times, if asked we would normally serve from 7.30am so I apologise for any inconvenience caused. Our normal breakfast times are 8.00 to 9.30 am. More
