Firstly, I'll do the positives, the rural setting was idyllic and the room was large, clean and well equipped. The negative was the attitude of some of the staff. I would expect a three star hotel to provide breakfast before 8.00am especially as the hotel is used by many long distance walkers. A request for an earlier breakfast (even a... More

Thanks for your review, as mentioned before we do have a couple of new staff who did not think to ask about earlier breakfast times, if asked we would normally serve from 7.30am so I apologise for any inconvenience caused. Our normal breakfast times are 8.00 to 9.30 am. More

We have lots of comments to make, but doubt our observations would make any difference. We prefer to say just this .... the New Dungeon Ghyll is NOT a 3 star hotel. Rather, it IS a 3 star backpacker's hostel, with a dining room.

My partner & I only stayed one night on our brief visit to the Langdales, but it was good. After our day out on the tops walking (we must have picked the hottest couple of days for a while) we were really ready for a beer in the Walker's Bar. It was packed standing room only, England were playing in... More

We stayed two nights over a weekend whilst walking in the area. The hotel itself, the rooms, the bar area and the outside area were all pleasant enough. The biggest let down for us however were the staff. It wasnt that they weren't friendly, they were, its just that they were very unprofessional, and for the price the hotel charges... More

Hi, thanks for your review. I am looking into your comments about our staff and taking onboard your comments, we do have a couple of new staff as previously mentioned but that should not really affect our service. Once again thanks for the comments and maybe we will see you another day. More

The friendly staff really made the difference here. There was a nice comraderie and community to those staying there. Interest in where you'd walked to and commiseration over sore feet and sunburn. The World Cup and wonderful weather I'm sure helped that atmosphere, as the games were on every evening in the Walkers Bar. There is a very nice restaurant... More

We were a group of 6 girls who stayed at The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel last weekend to be situated in the Langdale Valley so we could hike to Scafell Pike without needing transport... the hotel is in a perfect setting beneath the Langdale Pikes and the walk from the hotel was challenging but worthwhile, we arrived from Windemere railway... Along the Cumbria Way, we stayed at here for one night. Room 14 was very nice, spacious, although the wifi signal didn't penetrate the thick slate and granite walls. Dinner was excellent, all 3 courses, although the dining room was a bit of a ghost town. We would stay the again, it isn't cheap at around £175dbb for two, but... More

Glad you enjoyed your stay with us and thanks for the great review. Believe it or not but we have over 2000 songs on that ipod, I think we might need a new one as it is on a play list and not working as it should, thanks for letting us know and hope to see you soon. More

We used the Walkers Bar, which is a small little bar right next to the hotel entrance. We stayed there for a drink before completing our walk up Stickly Ghyll to Stickle Tarn. We tasted the 'energy slice' which is a flapjack with ginger, which was divine. So divine that I got two and ate one when I got to... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night walking break at this hotel. It isn't luxurious, but it is generally clean, friendly and comfortable and the location is outstanding. We were blessed with warm weather which helped. The bed was very comfortable and the location is so peaceful that we slept very well. The guest lounge was also very comfortable. The food... More
