My husband and I have just had the most restful stay in a wonderful place called "New Dungeon Ghyll". The staff greeted you with a smile and warmth. Showing you personally to your room, which was clean wanting for nothing. Flat screen tv, hairdryer, tea, coffee etc and ample toileteries. Rich deep towels in the bathroom, with the option to... more

My wife and l went for a three night stay in mid May. We had a wonderful stay, the location was unbeatable with stunning views from our room (6) of the Langdale valley. The staff without exception were friendly, polite and efficient. The food in the restaurant was was imaginative & cooked/presented perfectly including a large full English + all the trimmings... more

The hotel is wonderfully situated for walking direct from the door. We took some friends, so a group of 6 of us stayed for a '5-night dinner, bed and breakfast'. The log fires in the main rooms are ideal after a cold wet day. The staff were friendly and helpful, being attentive without going over the top. The rooms were... more

Stayed for three nights to walk and meet up with friends. Hotel was busy with groups on extended stay packages. Odd mismatch between the bedroom, which was modern, and public rooms which were nicely old-fashioned. The lounge had a log fire and comfy sofas. The public bar was rather unappealing and, as implied by other reviews, the bar food, which... more

My partner and I stayed for five nights for a hill walking holiday. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and comfortable and the food was some of the best we have had at any of the hotels we have sayed at recently. We would recomend this hotel wholeheartely. more

I booked this hotel for 2 nights. The offer we received was a half price room (quoted at £120 for the full price, down to £60 for a minimum of 2 nights.) When we arrived we were allocated a pokey room which had paint peeling off the walls, scuff marks on the skirting boards and a shower which had parts... more

Our fourth visit to Langdale and I am glad to see the rooms are much improved. The bathroom was first class and bedroom well fitted out. As usual the dinner was super. Service throught is really very good, pleasant, but not over bearing; Becky, Diane and all are still doing a great job. more

Two nights stay with wife & friends Wed & Thurs 19th & 20th Nov 2008 The restaurant was full each night and this being the end of November in the Lake District. Our food was delicous each night, and downed with super wines. Obviously the other diners were aware of the New Dungeon Ghyll's reputation for its fine food. We... more

I booked one night at the hotel in late Oct 2008 during a walking holiday. Hotel room, a double, was small but with a big comfy bed, TV, hot shower and all you'd expect. I slept well. My problem with this famous venue in the Langdale valley, at the heart of Lakeland, is the Walker's Bar next door, which is... more

We have just stayed 3 nights at the hotel. We booked the superior room expecting just that but were quite disapointed. The room had a 4 poster bed and although clean enough the furnishings were getting a bit tired and it was a bit on the small side. Whilst it had tea and coffee making facilities they only left 1... more
