We have just returned from a two night stay at the hotel with my parents and their small dog. The rooms were very nice, especially the larger room which my mum and dad had to give them a bit more room for the dog. This particular room had excellent views over the garden and lake and a larger bed and... more

We have stayed in Ambleside many times and had meals and drinks at this hotel. We decided we would like to stay there for an Autumn midweek break. We stayed in what they called a 'spacious room' and it was, with a partial lake view, nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable and the room was cosy (the weather was... more

We paid £140 a night for 2 B&B for an upmarket room. This is in the annexe and comes with its own little garden or balcony. You can just about see the lake over the outbuildings. Room is big - hasa nice seating area and big bed. Fittings area bit dated - avocado bath and manky curtains in bathroom. Also... more

A lovely location, right by the northern edge of Lake Windermere. Studio rooms are okay, but are starting to look a bit dated. Dogs are allowed to stay in the rooms at no extra cost, which is rare these days. Evening food options were limited and seemed to be aimed at the fast food brigade!!! You had to queue at... more

We have stayed here twice and eaten here many more times. the hotel sits on the edge of Windermere and has unrivalled wonderful views over the water. The bar/dining area overlooks this and there are outdoor tables too. The level of cleanliness throughout the hotel is the best we have ever seen. The rooms are beautiful, well coordinated soft furnishings... more

Have stayed here three times this year. During the winter and summer. Cannot fault the location and now that some refurbishment and alteration work has been completed the facilities are superb. To sit in the sunshine, look at Lake Windermere, sip a lager, wine, Pimms or whatever takes your fancy, is a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. My... more

We have stayed at this hotel four times now as its situation directly on the lake is unrivalled. The rooms are very pretty and always clean and the residents lounge and bar area have open log fires in the cooler months. The food can be a little hit and miss but is usually OK and there are lots of alternative... more

I have stayed at this hotel three times now and I find the informality most relaxing. Wonderful garden to sit and watch the goings on of Lake Windermere. Very pleasant place to return to after a days wandering over mountains and visiting the many attractions of the lake District. more

This is the fourth hotel I have stayed in at Ambleside. I will not go back to the others! The staff are very professional, very friendly (will open the bar to serve a round even when they are enjoying a quiet 15 mins at the end of a busy night!) The Lakeland Breakfast is the best I have had in... more

This hotel is very convenient for Ambleside and has a wonderful lakeside position. There is a garden to sit in, with benches and swing seats which was popular on the sunny days. It is well worth the upgrade to one of the suites which are large, well decorated and have their own balconies where you can sit and admire the... more
