Not bad - Not brilliant - so I guess it's mediocre. The staff are very friendly and cannot do enough to help. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with huge and very comfortable beds and armchairs. The general atmosphere when we stayed was that of a genteel old people's home. There is a main road close by meaning some noise... more

We stayed at the end of August for two nights having previously stayed about 3 year earlier. This time we found it a bit disappointing and not worth the money compared to many a similar hotel where you would get the same standard of room for about ¾ of the price if not less. We were asked if we wanted... more

This is a middle-of-the road hotel offering medium-good accommodation and food but at a price that is just a tad on the high side when compared with rates charged by similar hotels. Also be aware that the style and ambience are traditional rather than hip and are likely to appeal most to the older generation. I was here as part... more

We stayed at the Rothay Manor for 3 nights, this is a very pleasant family run hotel situated a few minutes walk from the village of Ambleside. The staff were welcoming, smiling and helpful, the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, the bathroom (room no. 1) like a ballroom with a separate shower and bath and wonderful views as well!... more

We booked into Rothay Manor at the last minute having had a very bad experience with The Mortal Man Hotel (check reviews before booking!). The staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough for you. The food was gorgeous and the service excellent. The rooms are clean, spacious and the cost of the accommodation very good indeed. We had a lovely... more

I visit the Rothay annually, usually in October, to do some fell walking, Ambleside being an ideal base. They have consistently participated in the Sunday Telegraph's discount scheme at that time of year, and this makes it good value. It's not a chain - but a family (Nixon) business and that is a great asset. The food is good, but... more

We stayed at this lovely lake district hotel for three nights with our two young children. We had a brilliant family suite with lots of space for everyone and a separate sleeping area for the children. We found everyone really welcoming. The kids had high tea everyday and then we were able to have dinner without them as they had... more

Most reviewers give this hotel 5 stars, so why am I only giving it three stars? First the positives - I can confirm that the rooms are great, the beds very comfortable and the service is really excellent, the staff are experienced and friendly and really want to look after you. It's a well-run small hotel and the prices are... more

I have just returned from 4 nights at the Rothay Manor hotel. The staff were the most welcoming, friendly staff I have experienced in years and nothing was too much trouble. My mother, being disabled in a wheelchair had required proper, disabled facilities in the bathroom and at Rothay Manor we stayed in the Loughrigg Suite, a 2 bedroomed bungalow... more
