OK all I can say is do not stay here. The room was poky and the furniture was drab and old like something your granny would have with. Bed tiny when advertised as a double. \what the website describes and what you get are too different things. Not impressed what the website says and what is there are two different... more

This lady and her husband had booked for 30th April and 1st May. They left within a few minutes of arrival saying that they'd had an urgent recall home as the gentleman's father was on the verge of dying. So they didn't actually stay in order to qualify them for submitting an informed review. Wouldn't it have made sense to...

Went to the Britannia with friends for a weekends walking. Loved it the moment we walked in. Have eaten there previously but never stayed. The rooms are small but then so is the inn! Adds to the ambience of the place. The log fires make the place. Friendly staff. Dogs welcome to stay in the rooms which was brilliant for... more

We enjoyed our stay at the Britannnia, but it was spoiled slightly by a lack of attention to cleanliness and a bit of an air of neglect. Everywhere just seemed a bit grubby and run down - I'm not terribly fussy, but even I felt like I wanted to get hold of the vacuum cleaner and clean the stairs leading... more

We drove down from Aberdeen to meet up with close relatives who had come over from New Zealand and had stayed at the Inn several times before. From their description we reckoned that the £100.00 per night was expensive but the experience would make it well worth the money. Our first concern was that the waste bin in the bathroom... more

A fantastic location. Idyllic spot a few miles out from Ambleside, perfect for walking and getting away from it all. Our room was small but adequate, well furnished and on the face of it, clean and presentable. On closer inspection the carpet at the foot of the bed was matted with dog hair. The room couldn't have been hoovered before... more

We spent 2 nights at half term at the Britannia. The room (no.6) was small but perfectly adequate and very quiet, the bed was comfortable and very clean. The bathroom looked new and was fine. We ate in the hotel both nights, you need to book this as it was very busy. The dinner was delicious and the portions were... more

This is the first time I have felt moved to write a review on a hotel and OK, we didnt actually stay here, but, after having sought for a decent Pub in the Langdales we finally found one - This is Great ! The food was outstanding, the beer good and the welcome was warm. The inside seating is somewhat... more

The Britannia is one of the most perfectly situated pubs in the Lakes - stroll to the end of any of the lanes leading away from it and you're surrounded by mountains within seconds. Good walking, lovely views and very peaceful. The pub itself is the main attraction, especially in winter when the log fire is going (though you have... more

We have just returned from a weekend in the Lake District. We stayed two nights at the Britannia Inn in Elterwater Village, which is approx 5 miles from Ambleside. We loved the Inn and would go back! The village is very cute and picturesque - we could have taken 100's of photographs! We had a double ensuite room (room 9)... more
