I took my partner to the DD in order to start off our stay in the Lakes with an excellent meal (she is a real foodie). Unfortunately we were hugely let down by the DD. Whilst the food was generally good I thought it was not worth the price we paid. What seriously let down the DD was the terrible... more

We've stayed at the Duck twoce now and both times have been absolutely fantastic. The rooms are cosy and welcoming, the hotel is at a fairly quiet crossroads and the food is amazing. I've been fortunate enough to stay in some of the finest hotels in the world and whilst this is obviously not glitz and glam (and nor is... more

The stay was very quiet, we got one of the smaller rooms as the hotel was booked all except for the last room at the rear. In our stay we saw very few other guests, though we chose to go to Ambleside to eat in the evening. We arrived at the Inn after a days walking and felt a little... more

We booked the duck for our third wedding anniversary. Upon arrival the staff were very pleasant and took us to our room 8. First of all I noticed the fire door right outside the room, however checked this and it appeared to close quietly. The room was small but nicely furnished, bathroom very good. We returned to our room at about 5.30pm... more

We stayed at the Drunken Duck for one night on Saturday 1st December 2007. There were two couples. Although we booked well in advance there was only one standard room left so we booked 1 x standard room and 1 x superior room. Upon check in, the reception staff did not bother to verify which couple were staying in the... more

e decided to treat ourselves to a two night stay at the Drunken Duck Inn in July 2007 for our second anniversary. Both my husband and I thought that the place was wonderful. Our room was small but acceptable, we had a nice view over the courtyard and was always quiet. We thought the water and biscuits in the room... more

We found our stay to be just as perfect as ever. The menu had delicious vegetarian and fish options and the staff couldn't do enough to ensure that, being vegetarian, I always had something new to try for dinner. The setting, atmosphere, service, food and accommodation is exceptional. We can't wait to go back and have already booked our next... more

The benefit of hindsight. I stayed at the the drunken duck for a long weekend this November - I had booked it as a surprise weekend away for my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday and was looking forward to a great weekend of fine food, fine wine and fine walking. The downsides: 1. Room size - I had booked a... more

This is a letter sent to the owner of the Drunken Duck in July 2007, following our stay. It's now November 2007 and as yet we have had no reply. I'm really not surprised though. Had she replied I might have thought twice before posting this here. By the way, don't believe the stuff about wireless Internet access; it doesn't... more

First I would like to say that my husband and I had lunch last October 06 and had a fantasic lunch, so promised ourselves a dinner and overnight stay this year. The room was beautiful and very comfortable, we went down to dinner had pre-dinner drinks and ordered our dinner. We were shown to our table and waited over 20mins... more
