Stayed two nights in The Drunken Duck, in room 14 in the extension. Our room was lovely.....with fabulous views overlooking the local fields. Having had a chance to peek through the doorway of some of the other rooms in the extension as they were being cleaned, the others looked equally lovely and slightly bigger. The service was friendly and the... more

Stayed here for our wedding anniversary in the Garden Room, the room was excellent with great views. No problems at all with the room. The food was probably the best I have eaten there in 8 odd years of going. The food is a bit pricy but then good food usually is and no more expensive than other good quality... more

I took my parents away at the last minute and had two rooms in the main bit of the building. Other reviewers are correct they are very small. They also have a problem with their water. Although they say they have baths with shower attachments rather than showers the shower attachments don't really work if you lift them up higher... more

We visited this lovely hotel in February to celebrate my mum's 60th birthday. The hotel itself is nestled in the most beautiful setting with breathtaking views over the surrounding landscape. When we arrived we were welcomed by the porter and the owner and taken to our rooms. They could not have been more helpful or courteous. The rooms were, how... more

This was our wedding anniversary treat, and it was every bit as good as we were hoping for, if not better. Service was excellent: courteous, friendly, discrete and efficient and also non-pretentious, non-ostentatious, not servile. The room was of nice size, certainly not a small one - apparently the rooms in the main building are smaller, but ours (19) was... more

With good friends we went to the Drunken Duck hoping for a pleasant lunch. On arrival, and asking about a table for four, my wife received the curt reply, "take your chance!" not" would you like a drink while you wait?", which might have bee a nicer welcome. This same gentleman chose not to serve another customer because he was... more

We went to the Drunken Duck for dinner and found it completely overrated. The food was okay, but not worth the money. Service was a bit snooty, we definately didn't feel welcomed and the atmosphere was lacking in the charm that you expect from the Lakes. We also tried the Mason's Arms during our stay and the food was fantastic... more

My wife booked a night here for a treat for us both. I was slightly apprehensive as I had read some reviews on here which were less than favourable. They were also wrong. This place is a true revelation. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. The room (the most expensive there, the Garden Room) was lovely with great views of the... more

Called into the Drunken Duck on a delightful sunny Monday with friends after hearing so much about the Inn I was really quite excited. The setting is superb and the Inn look so inviting! What a dissapointment the staff were miserable no hello and no good bye! not even a thank you! difficult to even get a smile. We ordered... more

We stayed here for one night in December 08. Tucked away in the depths of Ambleside, the Drunken Duck is a great place to get away to with a loved one for some peace and quiet. We had booked a deluxe room. This was number 12 which was in a converted building in a courtyard opposite the main house. This... more
