This is a lovely bed and breakfast with comfortable rooms and all amenities. The situation is beautiful and we were made to feel very welcome. The rooms were spotlessly clean, nicely decorated with beautiful bed linen. A home cooked farmhouse breakfast made to order finished a perfect stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend break in such a lovely and peaceful setting. The farm is only a few miles from Ambleside so it is a central location to visit places in the Lakes but It feels like quite a remote setting. There are lovely views from the farmhouse and lots of interesting wildlife about. We saw rabbits, foxes, deer... More

Beautiful old farmhouse on hills above Skelwith Fold surrounded by lovely trees. Friendly helpful people. Fresh milk available to brew up. Good breakfast. Clean, comfy rooms. Excellent value. Nothing not to like.

I found this picturesque working farm, it's immediate and broader surroundings to be beautiful, and a highlight of a five week trip. The common room (where a great breakfast is served) is a fine place to relax and meet the other guests. We enjoyed lovely dawn and dusk walks around the farm and got to watch the hosts bottle feed... "Make yourselves at home" is an all too common phrase but from the moment we arrived it was clear that in the case of Holmeshead Farm, Judith and Edward meant exactly what they said. From the fridge with fresh milk instead of the usual UHT packets, to the cosy lounge and "last one in turn the lights off" attitude everything... More

With Ambleside booked out, we chose to stay 3 nights in this cosy and inviting Farm stay. A peaceful and attractive area of the Lake District with unspoilt rural views. Parts of the farm house are 300 years old and we loved the creaking and uneven floorboards that provide a genuine old world atmosphere - and a nice warmth. Our... More

My partner and I stayed in sept 2013 just for 2 nights and found the room cosy with good views. Lovely hosts. It's quiet and just off the beaten track enough to give a flavour of the timelessness that the lake district evokes. Holmeshead farm has the right mix. Big garden with great views on a nice day and we... More

A location so beautiful you could be starring in a Cumbria tourist video, the warm welcome from Judith and her husband to the warm, a lovely comfy living room where the top notch breakfast cooked to order in the morning, makes this a perfect stop from which to explore the Lakes. We visited for walking/sight-seeing but also to stumble back... More

I'll keep this short... Clean, neat and very traditional little farmhouse. Stunning scenery, delicious breakfast and friendly owners. Would recommend and come again for sure. One tip if you're planning on staying at Holmeshead - take a sat nav, especially if you're driving in the dark. It's amazing how similar windy country roads look in the pitch black!

We had a fabulous stay at Holmeshead Farm. Arriving late on a dark afternoon, we were greeted by Judy with a warm cup of tea and some yummies. We settled in and Judy directed us to a lovely restaurant for dinner. We stayed two nights and felt very at home here. If/when we return to the Lake District, I would... More
