The irony of the hotel bar being called "Fawlty Towers" was clearly lost on the owner and staff of Sawrey House. Unfortunately their approach to hospitality leaves everything to be desired. I approve of a relaxed approach with guests , but when the waitress is hovering pen in hand, demanding that you order breakfast when your mouth is full of the first course is simply rude. The staff of three struggled to look after the few guests that were there and dinner and breakfast were hurried and badly put together affairs, the food being poor.
The once beautiful house is now shabby and in need of an overhaul. I could barely make out the view from my bedroom window as the panes were thick with years of dirt, peeling wallpaper and torn lino in the bathroom made for a feeling of not wanting to touch anything ,as everything seemed unclean.
The synthetic bedding made for a sticky nights sleep and breakfast in the cold and damp dining room just made me want to get out into the... more
