Stayed for Fred Whitton weekend with a friend. Nothing was too much trouble for our incredibly welcoming host Ethna. Clean comfortable rooms, wonderful breakfasts, safe place for the bikes, and a great location in a quiet street that's just a short walk to the town centre. There can't be a better place to stay when exploring the area.

We stayed at Barnes Fell in Ambleside for the May bank holiday Weekend. We stayed in the Loughrigg room . It was decorated beautifully and the views from the bay window were amazing . The attention to detail in the room and in fact the whole B &B are second to none . From the luxurious bath robes hanging on... More

This was a fantastic place to stay. Booking was easy, friendly and informal, an approach that I like very much. The room was beautiful and had been recently decorated, with a view of the very pretty garden and the fells beyond. We were moved to an even better room at no extra cost because some regulars had cancelled, which we... More

There are three things that make this BnB spectacular: 1) Its location 2) Its hostess, Ethna 3) the quality of the rooms Although Ambleside is beautiful, I imagine that few places in the village could compete with the elevated perspective that this BnB provides. It seems to me that it being literally a 5 minute walk from the centre makes... More

Stayed for three nights on our first visit to the the Lakes. Couldn't have chosen a better B&B. Lovely and clean, nice bright room with fresh flowers and a great view overlooking Ambleside. Great host in Ethna, who couldn't do enough for us and gave us welcome advice on where to go and see. Lovely breakfast set us up for... More

Our recent 3 night stay at Barnes Fell was welcoming and comfortable. Ethna is the perfect host. Everywhere is clean and tidy and the breakfast is excellent. This was our first stay and we will be back. It is located within easy walking distance of the town centre.

Set just away from the hustle and bustle of the ever popular Ambleside centre this quiet retreat allows you to relax in a quaint and immaculate residence. Rooms are very comfy with excellent showers and the all important tea/coffee making facilities. The outstanding views across to the Lakeland fells that greet you in the breakfast room would bring a cheery... More

Just retuned from a lovely weekend in Ambleside, staying at Barnes Fell. Ethna was an attentive but discreet host. Nick's breakfast was lovely, very tasty and fresh. Stayed in the loughrigg room which was beautiful, spotlessly clean, bathrobes a lovely touch and amazing views. Only a two minute walk into centre of town. Perfect stay, would definitely recommend it.

Another fantastic stay at Barnes Fell.We stayed in the Loughrigg room which has a wonderful view. What more can you say-the rooms are cosy, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean;the location is perfect;the breakfasts are superb and most importantly you are made to feel at home by Ethna and Nick.We can stay anywhere in Ambleside but we always come back to Barnes Fell.
