Just returned from a 4 day break in the self catering retreat Stones Throw owned by Elder Grove. Only a couple of minutes walk into Ambleside, it was the perfect place for a relaxing break away before the madness of Christmas. The little extra touches made it all the more special-from the loaf of homemade bread and jar of marmalade... More

Stayed here whilst attending a wedding in Grasmere. We arrived late at the landlord was extremely helpful in telling us where to go for some food and what to do the next day if we were to go for a walk. The rooms were beautiful, the overall décor of the B&B was perhaps a bit too much, but still very... More

All the little details that make a trip away extra special have been thought about at Elder Grove. From the extensive welcome pack to the quality of breakfast, local walk guides that have been written by the owners, tray bakes and honest box in the hallway (which has led me to make my own version of Mars Bar Crispy Cake!)... For the second year my wife and I travelled to the lakes for a few days break. We booked the Elder Grove on line and ordered a room with King Size bed. Only one available - was on top floor but took it anyway. We were not disappointed. The room was excellent, beautifully clean, with full compliment of tea, coffee... More

We had a 3 night stay, rooms were immaculate, free wi-fi to keep the teenagers happy, and we consistently had the best breakfast I've ever had in a hotel. I am coeliac and they catered for me so well with gluten free products which isn't that common - so thanks so much for that!

This hotel is beautifully kept. Vicki and Paul are the perfect hosts. Alot of the products used for breakfast are locally sourced and Paul makes his own jams, marmalades and bread. Any kind of diet is catered for.The rooms are beautifully kept. We never stay anywhere else in Ambleside.

6 of us spent 2 nights at the beginning of July to celebrate hubbies 65th. From the minute we checked in Vicky & Paul couldn't do enough to make us welcome. Our room was very spacious (4 poster and very comfortable) There were plenty of toiletries and tea/coffee. Even though we were at the front of the house and overlooking... More

Lovely B & B with cosy clean rooms and baths. Rooms are so well equipped there's even a folder with information on local attractions and how to get there. The breakfast was sumptious, with home made bread and jam courtesy of the owners, Paul and Vicky. Overall a more than awesome experience in the Lake District capped by our stay... More
