Dingy place with small rooms and narrow corridors. Manager shouted at my girlfriend for having the light on, moved us into a different room, increased prices and asked us to change our own bedsheets. Overall, a very poor experience indeed. Avoid at all costs, try a hostel down the road, worth the extra £10/£15.

This has got to be the worst place ever to stay. The hallway, corridor and room stunk of mould .The carpets where filthy and the stairway was so narrow, that anything bigger than a laptop bag was a struggle to get up them. The room was the size of a shoe box!! with no where to put your luggage. The... More

Things you may expect to do, but can't: - opening windows - washing hands without getting in the shower - climbing comfortably and safely upstairs (the stairs are 60 cm wide. If you have something bigger than a pouch, you're in a mess) - getting out of bed without banging against the wall - sleeping without being awaken by hosts'... More

I've been here for one night and it was enough......there was no free parking as said on their site, just the usual pay and display parking which was free during night and weekend. Therewas no reception, just a sort of "bar" which should have been the breakfast room, not connected to the rooms.....There was a narrow stairs and it was... More

I feel robbed and ripped off, I reserved 3 rooms for my family in Hostel Alma, for a day 8.8.13, I also came with my family, we came at midnight to the hostel, we came as fast as possible, unfortunately, nobody opened the door and never anwsered the phone when I phoned the owner. I stood at the door with... More

Did not expect the Ritz as this is a hostel and it is cheap we paid £40 for a night for 2. I have stayed in a lot worse hostels on my travels. Kitchen has milk, tea, coffer biscuits and cereals to help your self anytime. Microwave and plenty of clean cutlery/plates. I think people misunderstand the owner as he... More

Pros: 1) Location - less than a 10 minute walk from the train station and the beach 2) Price Cons: 1) Noise! Half the building faces a major road and there is traffic all night. Ask to be placed on the back side of the hotel, or bring you earplugs. 2) The Hostel is closed between 10am-3pm. You can call... More

Impossible to sleep, since the window can't be closed and the road is just outside. The only difference between sleeping outside on the lawn and in this hostel is the roof. The stairway is very narrow and steep, so if you have a big bag, then it can be difficult to get in and out. Please note that the tap... More

I booked on line - and arrived to find a decrepit building (even the windows are boarded up) and a very rude manager/owner who didnt want to let us in as we were before the 3pm opening time. He told us, in no uncertain terms, to go away. I cancelled the booking of course - but the small print on... More

Do not even consider stay at the Hostel Alma in Dover, England. Our experience is somewhat similar to other 1 out of 5 star reviews and I do not expect anything to change. My girlfriend and I arrived in Dover this June (2013) before heading over to France to visit Paris. As two students we tried to find somewhat cheaper... More
