The County Hotel was the absolute worst place I have ever stayed! The place is shabby inside and out! The rooms were non-smoking but reeked of old smoke, there had been a water leak over the closet that had never been cleaned, the carpet was filthy, the toilet refused to flush, and the shower didn't work. We were booked for... more

I booked a family room for myself and 3 children (aged 16 and 2 x 15). I rang the hotel to book and was quoted £60 for the room (no breakfast) The room was very small for a family room - but the main problem was that I was charged twice. On arrival I booked in and the form asked... more

My family ended up getting stuck in Dover late after missing our ferry, We was recommended this hotel from another hotel. I have to admitt that from the ouside i was a bit wary but what a surprise i got on entering, The reception staff went out of there way to accomdate us even arranging for a cot to be... more

Unwise of us I know, but we set out for Dover the night before an early morning Ferry to Calais without a hotel booking. Checked all of the chain hotels in town and several upscale B&Bs and all were full. The County Hotel being on the main route to the ferry terminal and located in a relatively modern (70's) building... more

Three of us stayed here recently. This was no five star hotel but for three travelers suffering from jet lag --- the hot shower, convenient location to town and restaurants and the Castle, the comfortable bed and A/C -- this was a great hotel. It was safe and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the lift worked. more

I had to stay overnight in Dover and this hotel was booked for me by the company that I was working on behalf of. On arrival it wasn't obvious how to get in at first, the front door is very small and isn't quite the size that you would expect it to be. My room was next to the lift... more

We were travelling to France early on a Friday morning; knowing what the M25 can be like, we decided to stay overnight in Dover. This hotel is very close to the ferry port and seemed ideal. However, the interior of the hotel is dark and uninviting, with a fairly large reception desk dominating the front hall. We were given our... more

If your getting the ferry, get the last one and stay in Etap at euro city Calais, 36Euro for the room and 6 euro for additonal person, very basic but clean cheap and no noise, 4 star compared to the COUNTY,... more

After reading the reviews about this hotel on the various websites we came to Dover with some fears.........these were all well founded as it appeared!! The hotel is very drab and dreary from the outside. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. My wife and I were given a room on the 5th floor, and very scenic it was... more

My wife and I have stayed at many hotels during our 35 years marriage buy this one by far is the worst we have ever experienced. The room was dirty. The water would not empty from the bathroom basin. The sliding door which overlooked the main road would not close, hence traffic noise through the night. The blanket and bedspread... more
