We booked an overnight stay via an amazing Living Social deal for dinner, bed and breakfast (although we sadly had to miss the latter - early channel crossing!) with the assistance of the charming Abbi on Reception, who couldn't have been more helpful and efficient. The booking was confirmed with a personal email within a few minutes of making our... More

We married last week in Kingsnorth Church and after the service travelled down to The Marquis for our reception. We had the sole use of the venue including overnight accommodation. We could not fault anything. Laura the wedding planner was amazing and everything ran smoothly. All the staff were brilliant and really helpful. The food was outstanding, they should have... More

Lovely place food fantastic, service excellent some staff went above and beyond helpful and accommodating. Despite this being a very highly recommended restaurant the chef was prepared to accommodate us after a long day travelling with some top of the range sandwiches and special beef dripping chips! Thank you. Rooms comfortable great decor lots of nice touches including coffee nespresso... More

We stayed here for one night with dinner for our wedding anniversary last year. I can't fault the room, service, food or drinks. It is perfect for a special occasion and I would certainly return for an anniversary in the future. It was expensive for one night away, but you get what you pay for, and it was more than... More

Celebrated my special Birthday here with my family and it was absolutely fantastic! We had their celebration package which included afternoon tea, pre-dinner drink, four course dinner and a room for the night! The afternoon tea was great, beautiful sandwiches and cakes and a lovely glass of their sparkling wine! Dinner was fantastic, beautifully presented and the best lamb shank... More

We have no problem with the quality of the rooms and the welcome greeting of the staff - we have stayed here before. We did however find this time that the food and the service at both dinner and breakfast to be of a very poor standard. The menu looked very good but we felt that the chef was just... More

We were treated to 1 night's dinner, bed & breakfast by friends and this was the best B&B that we've stayed at in the UK. On arrival, there was plenty of car parking & a very welcoming check-in. We stayed in one of the standard double rooms (Malmains room). Everything worked in the room with fully adjustable air conditioning and... More

What an amazing weekend! Staff were so helpful, friendly and welcoming without being over bearing. The food was first class and we found the restaurant staff extremely professional. The cleanliness of our room & en suite was to a very high standard. We can't wait to go back again!

This was, hands down, one of the nicest B&Bs we'd ever stayed in. Our room was spacious and modern while still being homey, and we were even upgraded for free due to another cancellation! The location of the B&B is fantastic--it's about 20 minutes away from the White Cliffs, and very convenient to the Chunnel. The food there is awesome.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Come on in. Take a look around. You might just be surprised. For while the Alkham Valley, indeed Alkham village itself, suggests genteel old England at its most rural and unspoiled, the Marquis itself is something else... It's a strikingly contemporary restaurant and hotel. The product of a major renovation in 2008, what was once the village's pub, The Marquis of Granby, has been utterly transformed. Space, light, fine furnishings and beautiful fabrics and the opportunity to fine tune every detail hasn't been missed. The restaurant is a revelation. Head Chef Charles Lakin's seasonally inspired and locally sourced menus are as fresh as they are imaginative, and the elegant 21st century styling is exceptional. Queen sized pocket sprung beds are swathed in the finest cotton. Sumptuous fabrics dress windows and chairs. And an eclectic collection of art completes the mood, the mix and the personality that makes this place unique. Boutique chic in the heart of the English countryside? You've found it. You've arrived. ... more   less
