The good points: Breakfast was very nice and plenty of it. The owner is a pleasant chap to talk to. The location is in the centre and easy access for sights and shops etc. The bad points: The pilgrim room at £100 is a waste of money, I left feeling completely ripped off. There is no picture of this room... More

Canterbury in the summer is always busy so hotel rooms are at a premium. We booked The Sun Hotel as it was one of the very few with rooms available for the weekend we wanted. At £175 a night we did raise an eyebrow but the weather was good, the hotel was bang in the centre of the old city,... More

Last minute on-line booking resulted in an upgrade to a family room- the Cathedral room. Exactly like the pic on the site. The decor was cleverly done and the characteristic windows overlooked the cathedral. You won't get anything closer! The host, Andrew, was there to meet us and gave us a great welcome. It's probably one of the best bike... More

My boyfriend came to visit, not knowing where to stay in Canterbury, he decided to book a room at the Sun Hotel. The location waas perfect, but everything else was so unfortunate. First, we could not find the entrance to the HOTEL. We asked nearby shops and none of them knew where to find it – THE HOTEL IS 600... More

My husband and I accidently booked the wrong date with this hotels own website ( the booking went through as being the same day that we were booking it) and so we immediately tried to phone to amend it. However, after ten hours of answerphone messages , my husband finally spoke to the manager the next morning only to be... More

A late booking, found ourselves in an insecure environment - unmanned for most of our stay, no recognisable reception, dirty. Finally at £175.00 per night overpriced for what was basically a rooming facility. We usually use and would recommend the Abode, just as central, great service, professional and between £108 and 130 per night - it was full. So concerned... More

We stayed at this hotel for one night and found no problem with it. The service was great, we found that the staff could not do enough for you. One thing that my partner and I both loved was the bathroom in the Sun Room, complete with jacuzzi! I would say the hotel is not to everyone's taste.. If you... More

Stayed one night in mid September and did not enjoy the experience. The location is great, but on a Saturday night the revellers may as well get in the room with you, it's so noisy. The entrance is difficult to find and the lobby was a work in progress. It's clearly an old house but seems to have managed to... More

We stayed for 2 nights while attending a wedding. It is in the centre of Canterbury and excellent for sight seeing although expect some outside noise during the night (no fault of owner). We were upgraded for no extra cost to the Sun Room, which was a bonus. However, as the other comments there is no receptionist and no bar... More
