We stayed for two nights in the Dickens room, and generally enjoyed it. The room is definitely spacious enough, with a separate en-suite toilet and en-suite shower room. Everything was clean, and when we discovered that the kettle in the room didn't work, they happily provided us with a replacement - which was evidently a brand new kettle. The building... More

We booked this hotel because we needed a family room for a wedding nearby. We were worried when we arrived to find we had to ring someone to get in and the very friendly woman who answered couldn't really speak English. We stayed in the Marlowe room. The main bedroom was extremely cramped. It was advertised as a fourposter, as... More

Very disappointing. Obviously Canterbury is expensive, but this hotel is overpriced. Understand it must cost a fortune to run a historic building in the middle of the city but for the price charged you expect great details, whereas this feels like a pretty miserable B&B. Does not run as hotel as door locked and reception unmanned, also the tea rooms... More

If you want to stay somewhere with bags of character and a great sense of history, this might be the place for you. An exquisite building, now thought to date from the 1480s, rescued from a derelict state by the personable and friendly owner. We were in the Canterbury room, a family room, very comfortable with a lovely bathroom. The... More

The good points: Breakfast was very nice and plenty of it. The owner is a pleasant chap to talk to. The location is in the centre and easy access for sights and shops etc. The bad points: The pilgrim room at £100 is a waste of money, I left feeling completely ripped off. There is no picture of this room... More

Canterbury in the summer is always busy so hotel rooms are at a premium. We booked The Sun Hotel as it was one of the very few with rooms available for the weekend we wanted. At £175 a night we did raise an eyebrow but the weather was good, the hotel was bang in the centre of the old city,... More

Last minute on-line booking resulted in an upgrade to a family room- the Cathedral room. Exactly like the pic on the site. The decor was cleverly done and the characteristic windows overlooked the cathedral. You won't get anything closer! The host, Andrew, was there to meet us and gave us a great welcome. It's probably one of the best bike... More

My boyfriend came to visit, not knowing where to stay in Canterbury, he decided to book a room at the Sun Hotel. The location waas perfect, but everything else was so unfortunate. First, we could not find the entrance to the HOTEL. We asked nearby shops and none of them knew where to find it – THE HOTEL IS 600... More

My husband and I accidently booked the wrong date with this hotels own website ( the booking went through as being the same day that we were booking it) and so we immediately tried to phone to amend it. However, after ten hours of answerphone messages , my husband finally spoke to the manager the next morning only to be... More
