Friendly enough but the electric powered vacuum based toilet plumbing in room 7 was terrible and made loud sucking noises long after use and then intermitently throughout the night. We had asked, on discovering the problem, whether the power to the system could be disconnected but the answer provided after contacting the Manager was 'Sorry'. The alternate room offered (No.... Its easy to see why the reviews are mixed - found this on foot and perhaps should have struck out for more choices on a Sunday afternoon. Location is excellent, dont expect modern facelift, this has probably changed little in 20 years. Price is a stretch for whats on offer - quirky enough with some useful touches like USB charger... We stayed overnight on a fleeting visit to Canterbury because our usual hotel (Falstaff) was full. The quaint front was impressive but the interior did not conform, it being rather old fashioned with very steep winding staircase. We too were in Room 8 at the top of the house. It was remarkably small with an en-suite bathroom which one might... More

We stayed here for 1 night to see a musical at Marlowe Theatre. It has a great central location and it took about 10 mins to walk to from Canterbury West station. We stayed on a Saturday to Sunday in March and had room 8 which oversees the front. I didn't find it noisy myself. Yes it is in an... More

We stayed here for the Valentine's weekend, as we know Canterbury really well, and wanted to go out to the Belgium restaurant nearby. Booking was done online through Superbreak, and it all went smoothly. We knew that this lodge would be within walking distance to all the local sights (Cathedral; Roman Pavement; Canterbury Tales experience; The Marlowe theatre; restuarants; shops... More

It is a (very) old building in the centre town (the parking is quite near, but must pay a part). The garden is lovely!!! The staff is nice, the breakfasts good, the wifi works well. But: too much noisy (due to the pub in front of) and not enough hot water pressure in the morning, yawn!

We stayed here one night for a visit to Canterbury to see the cathedral and city, and also complete our walk of the pilgrims way. We chose this place to stay as it is so nice to avoid the bland large chains We were certainly not disappointed. The building is old and charmingly quirky The staff were very helpful and... More

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 4 nights and everything about the place was amazing, best staff, best place to be situated in the heart of the town. Many people have mentioned about the noise in the streets, i only heard people going to the bar before 11.00 pm and after that i never woke up once to any... More

I stayed here for a week & would definitely stay here again. The building is old & located in the heart of the city centre making it ideal for tourists who want to explore. My room was very big, very comfortable & very clean. The staff are lovely & make you feel really welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The... More

This is an old building right in the city centre with the advantages and disadvantages that come with that. I think the location off set any noise. The staff are excellent, the bed was comfortable with lots of pillows and the continental breakfast very good. The bathroom is an en-suite size. Perfectly adequate and only noisy for a few minutes...
