We stayed here in June 2014 for a long weekend. What a great place with heaps of charm. Sipping a glass of reasonably priced wine from the bar as the sun went down overlooking the cathedral was a highlight of the holiday. This is the only hotel that I have ever stayed in where I have had fresh toast brought... More

Just stayed the night here on Monday 15th Sept 2014 for my daughters graduation in the Cathedral. An amazing old building full of charm and curiosity.....would have loved to have been allowed round the whole hotel, so many nooks and crannies. The Cathedral made an amazing back drop from the outdoor terrace and so central to the excitment of the... More

I loved staying here at the end August/beginning September. Very comfortable, quirky & quaint. Staff could not do enough to make my stay more enjoyable. Highly recommend the continental breakfast. Booked up for January!

We stayed at this hotel over the bank holiday and were blown away by the building built adjacent to the entrance gate of the cathedral in the Buttermarket. We loved the historic feel of the place 15th Century timber and sloping floors and all that. The location was the best being in the centre of historic Canterbury with St Augustines... More

Can't beat the location and charm! Stayed in Tranquility and had Cathedral views from our windows and an ensuite bathroom. The dining room was very quaint with one room on such a slant that it's a marvel the plate ware didn't slide off the tables! Really enjoyed our night here.

Stayed for the weekend and must say was very pleased. Quite hard to find as no signpost that was obvious from the street, however the cleanliness was second to none. Bedrooms very comfortable and staff very friendly. The only thing that was dissapointing was the full English breakfast for £7.50 - not very good value. Choose the free continental breakfast!!!

Dear Su L, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay here at Cathedral Gate. I'm pleased to hear that overall your stay with us was an enjoyable one. I'm sorry to hear the Full English breakfast was a disappointment as we usually receive compliments for them. We actually have a hanging sign above our doorway, but I... More

We stayed here asa family last weekend to celebrate my mothers 80th birthday. The couple who run the hotel are totally charming and as I had told them in advance gave her the best room in the hotel with a 4 poster and left flowers and a balloon in her room ( which they did without me asking). Breakfast which... More

Dear wsusan3161, Thank you for reviewing your stay here at Cathedral Gate. We are glad we got to be a part of your mother's 80th birthday weekend. I'm sorry to hear the streetlight disrupted your sleep. We will look into this and see if there's anything more we could do to block the light out of the room. I'm pleased... More

Let's be honest, you don't stay here because it is the greatest, most luxurious hotel. You stay here because it is old and creaky and right next to the Canterbury Cathedral. As in almost inside of Canterbury Cathedral. We were missing towels when we first arrived and the shower drain was clogged, but the fabulous staff more than made up... More

Dear Emily Y, Thank you for the review. I'm glad to hear that despite some hiccups your stay with us was enjoyable. I do apologise for the problems you experienced during your stay here -- we check the rooms and the bathroom and toilet facilities routinely, but on a rare occasion, something gets missed. We do our very best to... More

Could not have been happier with my choice, I came to Canterbury to photograph the cathedral and its stained glass, my room overlooks the cathedral at a distance of 200 feet over the cathedral precinct. The town is lovely, the people are friendly and cheerful, the Cathedral Gate is spotlessly clean, wonderfully helpful staff, everything you could possibly want in... More

Dear drkiracofe, Thank you for the wonderful review! We couldn't agree with you more about the room Joy -- it has the most beautiful views over the Cathedral precincts. It was an absolute pleasure having you stay here with us, and we do hope that we see you again in the future. Kind regards, Iida Cathedral Gate More
