We stayed for one night in the 'Barn' room; a double with a bunk bed. The hotel was very central and saved us getting a taxi after a night out, so it was worth staying there for that reason. The hotel is a very old building, with a maze of very steep staircases and corridors, which were a little confusing... more

I read reviews of this hotel after I booked it and thought I would end up writing a bad review. To be honest, I could write a fairly bad one about certain things, however there are some good things that make this review a mixed one: location was great, the staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a... more

We stayed here for a night, in a standard double, we were put in Rosemary 'a room they don't usually use' as it was very busy. The location was amazing, you are literally right next to the cathedral, but OMG, the noise! We stayed on a Wednesday night, and were woken up at about 4am by the noise of trucks... more

After a lovely trip to a historical part of the westcountry we decided to try our luck staying in the Cathedral Gate Hotel as an extra night of our holiday. We were comfortable for the most part but disappointed with the upkeep of the place which seemed a little shabby. The bed was very comfortable though which was a plus... more

I stayed here alone the first time I visited Canterbury, had a beautiful view of the cathedral in the morning and liked the quirky place so much I brought my husband back with me, along with my parents and brother when they visited from the United States. They found it a little odd, with the multiple staircases (there is no... more

I had a lovely time at this hotel. The service was amazing and the staff could not be any friendlier. The location of the hotel is superb due to it being in the middle of Canterbury, only a short walk from the min highstreet. Although slightly on the small side, the rooms still give you enough room to keep all... more

For me, the charm of the place didn't really overcome some of the problems. Reception was a bit scattered and often away from their desk when needed. Room smelled of some strong chemical/cleaner smell that couldn't be aired out. Bathroom had almost no toilet paper (8 squares). Other reviews note the poor quality of furniture and bed and the noise.... more

We wanted to stay at a quaint place with a lot of history and that is exactly what we got. They are small but pleasant rooms and we had a lovely view of the cathedral out of our window (see pics) and our own teapot for coffee or tea in the morning. It is a great place to stay if... more

a cosy little hotel located the closest to the Canterbury Cathedral. some may say the rooms and the furniture are a bit delapidated but this really adds to the charm of this hotel. the staff were very friendly, and one of them even helped me to carry my bags and showed me into my room. They ask for your personal... more

My wife and I stayed here for two nightsin May, friendly staff plenty of information leaflets for nearby attractions. Our room Joy had magnificent views into the Cathedral. Right in the centre of the city across the road from the tourist information centre. Decor needed a bit of a makeover, could do with a shower over bath but plenty of... more
