Friendly staff, amazing location, lovely rooms and a lounge with traditional board games for the family that took me back to my childhood. Breakfast was amazing, you could not ask for more. We're missing Canterbury already and are planning to return.

Outstanding location and staff. Way too many stairs for my old knees. Reserve a 2nd floor room. Wonderful little patio for afternoon tea with a view of the cathedral (from within its shadow). We never tried the full English breakfast because the Continental breakfast was more than sufficient (American hotels take note!)

Not the most inviting appearance from the street but wonderful, in a very English way. If you are over five hundred years old you are allowed to offer few concessions to modern living, so don't expect a large room, shower (but a bath will do fine) or fast wifi, or even straight walls and flat floors, but if you want... We stayed at the Cathedral Gate hotel for my girlfriend's graduation and it is a very charming place to stay. The rooms are lovely, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the service at breakfast is very attentive. There is a lovely little terrace out the back with a beautiful view of the cathedral. If I stay in Canterbury... More

In business since 1438 there is so much history in this hotel. Right against the cathedral gate, in the center of the old town, it was the perfect position. The attention to detail was extraordinary and the views of Canterbury Cathedral unique.

We loved this place! It was right in the centre of everything we wanted to see the sights in Canterbury and we could walk everywhere from here. The Cathedral is viewable from a deck at the back of the hotel and is spectacular, especially at night with a glass of wine. The original site was built in 1468 and it... More

Ideally situated adjacent to the cathedral, this quirky, but comfortable, hotel has modern amenities and very willing and helpful staff. Thoroughly enjoyable! The views of the cathedral are spectacular, and the breakfast room overlooks the heart of the ancient part of the city- great for people watching.

This is our 3rd stay, my wife and I booked into the room Joy for 4 nights this has great views of the Cathedral. My son also stopped 2 nights here in the room Siesta with great views of the square at the front of the hotel. The hotel staff are very helpful and accommodating, the rooms are spotlessly clean,... This is an excellent venue. Stayed in the Barn Room which was great, looked out over the cathedral but has windows on both sides of the room so we got a cross breeze. However the bathroom, while well appointed is tiny. Also the stairs as reported are very steep. All that said we would definitely stay here again.

The location and original fittings of the building were lovely even down to the uneven floors (this being a very old building). The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great. We would return. It is on a small square within a stones throw of pubs and restaurants. There is a small river through the... More
