Canterbury Hotels were all busy as beginning of freshers week. Dropped in at falstaff to be met by helpful staff who altered arrangements to accommodate us and at a discounted price. Location great with short walk to centre, easy access with the car back onto main routes and free parking. Stayed in converted outbuildings which were spacious and very quiet... more

Spent one night here for work. No smile on arrival, no hello have a nice stay. Just a scoul. The room smelt of wee, and the toilet fittings fell into the bowl first time I used it. But that was nothing to the bed. It was essentially a camp bed with a single mattress on top. It wobbled all night.... more

Spent 3 nights here end Jul/beg Aug 09. We arrived late-ish but there were spaces in the car park and reception desk staff friendly (although no wake-up call or paper offered, but free copies on the The Independent available every morning). We all went for a quick drink as barman told us in no uncertain terms he was shutting at... more

Stayed in one of the Tap Rooms, clean but shabby, with significant damp patches on ceiling. Hiding behind the fact that it is an historic coaching inn does not excuse the need for a significant redecoration of bedroom and bathroom. Irritations included the hairdryer being wired in too far from any mirror – ended up using the reflection in the... more

The pictures of the The Falstaff on the internet makes it look like a wonderful place to stay. 'Buyer beware'. It could be really nice but it needs a lot of tender loving care. It is old and has character, of that there is no doubt, but that doesn't mean that the carpets are ok if there is a stain... more

Our room (room 53) was like a bed site rather than a hotel room. The only daylight we had was from two velux windows. The base of the bed was uncovered to show stains and the bed linen was very basic. There was mould on the bathroom tiles and the bath was old and scratched. We complained and was offered... more

I stayed in one of their 4 poster bed rooms and the room was lovely. The breakfast was nice but the "full english" was anything but full(a tiny sasuage, bit of bacon, spoon of beans and a spoon of chopped mushrooms). The only thing which really let it down is after i left. They pre-authorised my card, then i paid... more

I normally stay at Abode when in Canterbury but sadly there were no vacancies. The Falstaff looks great from the outside and the receptionist seemed welcoming until she asked if I need help with my bag. When I said, 'no as it's on wheels' she didn't think to say that my room was in an outbuilding, across a shingle car... more

We wanted a traditional room, so requested in advance a room in the main building, but having read reviews on this page we were careful to request a quiet room. We were not disappointed - we had room 12 which is at the back of the hotel, and we could not fault it in any way. The bathroom was very... more

After finding this hotel on the day we wanted to check in, we thought it was a great find and a fantastic location. just 2 mins stroll from the shops/bars/restaurant/cathedral. The hotel itself has does have a nice character of an old English inn and once we were moved 3 times (first room smelt of drains, second room was facing... more
