We dropped in for lunch on a Wednesday and had a pint of cider with our meal. Great atmosphere here and a lovely location just a nice distance to walk to from the town. The place was not crowded and we sat inside. The service was fine too.

Lunch with extended family of three generations. The menu was pretty limited - OK if you like burgers, or chicken wings. Not a great choice for the older generations. This leaves a very expensive steak (can't remember the price ??£18 or £22) or fish and chips for £13.50. The food was fine, but doesn't really justify the price. It's a... More

My girlfriend and I went here yesterday and I must say it finished our day nicely. The atmosphere and location is loverly and the staff very friendly. We loved it that Much we have decided to book a b&b for the night so we can have a few drinks and a meal there. Tristan & Nicky.

This pub has a great location by the park and abbey, with a lovely spacious pub garden and relaxed atmosphere. The food is delicious, and the Sunday lunch is really good. However the service is awful and completely ruins every visit I have made to the pub. Two weeks ago we took some friends there for a relaxed Sunday roast,... More

This pub has everything, great location, fantastic interior, history and heritage - BUT the service is just poor. I live in St Albans and when friends and family come to visit the Ye Old Fighting Cocks is the obvious place that you would like to show off and impress visitors at the so-called "oldest pub in England". I have just... More

I wondered if I had the right pub being that past reviews last year were not very good. My daughter booked a Sunday lunch for her 2 children my wife and myself. The weather was very nice and the pub was packed but we did not mind waiting an extra 15 mins for a table as we had a drink... More

I have always loved this pub. It has been part of my life for a long time and, as a good pub should, I feel like its an extension of my own home. The beer has always been great, and thankfully still is. The service has always been patchy but more good than bad and the food in the past... More

Visiting St Albans for the day and popped in for a quick drink while going 'walk about.' £7.80 for a pint of bitter and a half of bitter shandy. In fairness, the bitter was excellent. But, is this a record for an English pub?

Visited here with friends, setting is nice, parking a but of a nightmare. Waitress didn't really have a handle on the drinks menu which is ok but she had to check what ciders they had... No consistency of waiting staff just a general mill of people. Staff whilst not rude lacked any sense of welcome and hospitality it was very... More

Went today saturday 8th of June for the first time to this pub and did not expect or like the behaviour manners of one of there specific workers. I was sitting in the back garden of the pub to have a pint with friends and had my 2 and 5 year old daughters with me. At first she pointed out... More
