Stayed at the HDV Winchester on Sunday night last week (Aug Bank holiday weekend). As usual for the chain, the room was excellent, comfy bed, ipod dock (albeit the old connector), nespresso machine, flat screen TV with Sky sports, and free wifi. the deal was a cheap rate on the room (£70) if you stayed for dinner and spent more... The Hotel du Vin chain have a good reputation and this Winchester hotel is no exception. We stayed on a Sunday night on a special deal which reduced the cost of the room. We had drinks in the courtyard which was lovely in the late afternoon, although the drinks (I believe) are over-priced. We ate in the Bistro where the... More

Has a very unimaginative and limited menu, which is over priced. For the starter I had tomato bruscheta (definition - "consisting of grilled bread rubbed with garlic and topped with tomatoes, olive oil, salt and pepper"). Instead I got on a half toasted piece of bread an un-ripe tomato, an egg and anchovies. When it was pointed out the bread... More

This is a lovely old hotel, within a short walk of the old town. The courtyard is perfect for an afternoon drink, and the room was wonderful, with Nespresso machine and a bath tub at the end of the bed! It's a shame that the room overlooks car parks (handy but unattractive), but pull the blinds and it's heaven for... More

We stayed the night and made the most of Winchester from a very convenient site. Room spacious quiet and comfortable. Dinner in the Bistro was excellent with good wine and friendly service which followed us around from a courtyard apperative to apres dinner coffee in the bar. Reception team very good with special mention to Kayleigh who helped with all... More

Having stayed at several Hotel Du Vin's, I was looking forward to my stay here. I was not disappointed. I had a room on the top floor, just a word of warning here if you have mobility problems, they are pretty steep stairs! The room was beautifully appointed with air conditioning, which was very welcome as it was scorching outside.... More

We stayed here for our Ruby wedding anniversary, and it was first class. The welcome we got from the receptionist was superb and set the tone for our stay. Our room, a garden room, was lovely and spotlessly clean. The food in the bistro was very good indeed, best steak frites I've had outside France. Restaurant and bar staff were... More

I think you know what your getting with hotel du vin. A good night stay, good breakfast and usually great locations. My first stay in the Winchester branch and it was very good. Service as usual friendly and welcoming. We did wait quite a while for coffee. Overall though very good and the bed was really comfortable.

A perfect choice of venue for celebrating a special birthday. The food was excellent but the service surpassed anything we had ever experienced before. The staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. A special mention to Thomas who took his time to explain the dishes to us and his manner and attitude was exemplary. We will certainly be...
