Arrived to find no heating working in the room - had to get a portable heater. The hotel is very dated in it's decor, the furniture in the rooms is poor quality. Breakfast and Dinner served in a "conservatory" that has no heating - needed coats for breakfast. The evening meal was uninspiring and the breakfast poor - served raw... more

We decided to stay despite the reviews as it suited our needs from a location aspect. The hotel is situated right in the town and for £80 for a double room with breakfast, you can't go far wrong. The room was comfortable and clean and overlooked the garden it gives the impression of a country house hotel...is it tired and... more

I was frankly less than impressed with the Winchester Royal Hotel, and for £120 a night I expected far more. Firstly parking is terrible, though I suppose the hotel cannot be entirely blamed for this. The whole hotel is shabby and dated, with wallpaper stained and hanging from the walls, stained furniture and bathroom appliances, and a 'retirement home fresh'... more

Fantastic location in centre of town, with the potential to be a lovely hotel BUT it was actually most disappointing. Most of the rooms seem to be located in an ugly new wing, only half of which overlook the gardens. The bathrooms are equivalent to a travel lodge with the shower barely dribbling water. The wallpaper is tired and peeling... more

The hotel had helpful service with good food. My room was clean, comfortable with a nice deep bath tub, although the wallpaper was rather elderly! I enjoyed very peaceful nights even though the hotel was full. more

Stayed here for business & it was perfectly nice. The hotel were very helpful & Rachel on reception couldn't have been more helpful. As we had business meetings in Winchester for 2 days, they let us park for the day prior to our stay with no problem (just pop into reception & collect a permit) Checkin was a breeze. The... more

Shabby and poorly managed, tiny car park in which you double park and hand in keys, rooms £180 per night in newer part of the building old fashioned and pooly maintained was expecting a lovely room for that money. more

My wife describe it as “faded glory” I would describe it as an over priced dump, for £120 for two nights I expected a lot more, firstly the main car park, which is awkward to get to and has very badly laid out parking. If it is full you are asked to double park and hand in your keys, this... more

My room is rather tired, particularly the en-suite bathroom. On arrival I discovered that the car park is very small. Luckily I managed to squeeze into one of the last remaining spaces, this before 7pm. At reception I discovered that I had been allocated a smoking room despite requesting a non-smoking room when I booked. Apparently unless you book direct... more

This was our second stay at this hotel in recent years. This time, however, we managed to snare a very good internet price for bed and breakfast. On its own merit, the hotel is in a very good location - though there is a busy road to cross on the way to the High Street - and our room was... more
