What a dreadful hotel, staff were not too helpful and the general decor was appalling, I have never seen so much dust in one room it was an absolute disgrace, I went to turn on my bed side light and the amount of dust that fell from it was disgusting, they had obviously never cleaned it, the floor in the... A good hotel, centrally located for exploring the city. Friendly helpful staff. Clean room. After checking in and leaving bags in our room, we had tea in pleasant garden before setting off to explore the city. An interesting and lovely city, highly recommended for a weekend break. More

I haven't written a review in a while and stayed at the Royal Winchester Hotel in a double room. You know the hotel might not be great when you knock on the back door from the car park and the night porter clearly has jobs to do as opposed to deal with guests late! I was checked in with a... More

This was our final stop on a week long trip to the south coast. The hotel really needs a good refit. It's rather shabby and doesn't fill you with much enthusiasm. We checked in and then went to our room. The room was very spacious but the decor and fittings were definitely past it. There were two fist sized holes... More

Oh dear! I was meeting an old friend on her birthday and booked a jubilee afternnon tea for £30 with daily mail vouchers. We waited for 20 minutes in the garden before I collared a member of staff then were extremely disappointed to be served a very ordinary tea with a metal teapot, packaged jam and cream, a small slice... OK it is not perfection but to me it was a proper english hotel. The heating was uncontrollable but my room was lovely and spacious with everything I needed including windows that opened! The staff were very professional and friendly, the location was fab and I'm looking forward to another stay. More

Excellent location - a few minutes walk from the town centre and Cathederal. I agree with other reviewers that the hotel decor is dated and alittle shabby in places. Also agrre with the gentleman who said it was far too hot....we too turned the heating off in our room - to no avail. Lighting was also a little dim. That... More

Apart from the 70s decor and the tired look and feel of the place, my main concern was that you are unable to turn down the heating in the bedrooms in the main part of the hotel. This is simply not good enough. I was lucky that when I stayed in February it was cold outside and I could open... More

Whilst I accept the hotel is tired and in dire need of refurbishment the food in the restaurant is superb and there is a delightful garden if you like to eat or drink outside. If the lady behind the bar would smile and look less bored it would greatly improve the atmosphere but the chef certainly did us proud. Best... More

The location is excellent- right in the centre of town- and free car parking is a bonus. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good; we were expecting a buffet, so were pleasantly surprised when it was freshly cooked to order, with waitress service. As breakfast was included in the price, it made the hotel... More
