Four for lunch today, window table as requested. The mushroom amaretto almond "amuse bouche" was the best ever, starters of rillette of salmon with miniature pink grapefruit, garden salad with duck egg yolk , mains of sea bream, and belly pork served on pearl barley....all excellent, and served with a smile , despite a busy wedding elsewhere in the hotel.... We chanced upon the hotel today en route to our holiday cottage and thought we would stop for lunch. As we were arriving a wedding was underway but the receptionist told us we could have a "quick lunch" in the bar. After being deliberately ignored by the barman (studiously staring at his screen while I stood in front of him)... More

We have stayed in this Hotel and eaten in the restaurant at least several times a year for over 15 years. We have seen 3 General Managers come and go and several changes of staff but the ambiance has been maintained and its like a comfy pair of slippers - you relax as soon as you walk in. There has... We stayed at Lainston House for two nights as the reception for my son's wedding was being held there. I used to be a frequent visitor to Lainston House during the 80's and early 90's and in fact spent the first night of my honeymoon there in 1983. Everything the hotel did for the wedding was perfect. Organisation was fantastic.... More

Have stayed several times at Lainston before and have noted that the hotel was not delivering the high standard that we have come to expect. However this visit hails a return to the high standard it originally was. With a new general manager in charge, who is very much a hands on manager we found our stay excellent. The hotel... More

Deeply disappointed by this hotel. This was supposed to be my birthday treat..... It is not sophisticated as some say, but rather as many bums on seats all at once. The hotel was over full with a wedding who took over the drawing room. The other rooms all had tables reserved for afternoon tea so as a paying guest there... More

At a time this one one of my favourite places to go. Speedy, exceptional service, gorgeous views and a warm and classic environment. In the last 3 years or so unfortunately it's gone downhill. You used to pay for what you got, and it was well worth it. Now it's still lovely but it's lost it's edge. The prices are... More

That's the beautiful view from the lawn terrace tables on which you can dine al fresco in the summer evenings of what passes for clement weather north of the channel. The restaurant and bar, staffed by an obliging crew of friendly minions, provide excellent food and drink at expensive but not unreasonable prices. The special deals on rooms available from... More

We arrived just before check in on the Friday and stayed for lunch on the Sunday. We'd planned to do other things in the area, but aside from half a day in Winchester pretty much stayed here. It's certainly not cheap, but it is well worth it. The staff are all lovely, especially Hannah in the restaurant, and nothing was... More

We went for a late afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday. We were promptly escorted to the outside terrace on a lovely afternoon. After 15 minutes of waiting patiently and enjoying the views a waiter started delivering us food before we had even ordered. Profuse apologies ensued and we finally were able to order. However it was 45 mins after... More
