The Setthorns Camping in the Forest site offers beautifully secluded and private pitches which provide campers with a uniquely tranquil holiday. Resting among the shade of majestic oaks and pine trees, Setthorns provides the ultimate seclusion, which may be why it is so popular with those looking for a truly unique camping holiday. Pitch your tent in the peaceful setting of Setthorns and enjoy an abundance of wildlife, including free roaming ponies and deer. Rare, wild birds can be seen in their natural environment, and small mammals busy themselves as they go about their daily lives in the forest's heathland and woodland. Please note that there are no shower or toilet facilities on the campsite, therefore your own chemical toilet is essential.

Stayed here for one night, a lovely quite campsite. Very basic but we knew that when we booked We have an old VW Camper so we use a pop up tent for our chemical toilet. Plenty of space on the plot Good phone signal Staff very friendly and informative.

A lovely site with a friendly welcome but unfortunately we had an unsettling experience due to another visitor randomly banging the side of our motorhome for an hour between 10pm and 11pm. We had gone to bed and were not making any noise ourselves to provoke this reaction. Our young son was frightened as obviously there is no phone signal or onsite assistance once the office closes. The site barrier is down from 10pm so we could not drive off. This is the only reason that we will not be returning and hopefully is not an experience that happens to other visitors.

I love the forest sites and gave this one a go earlier this year. I'm a bit mixed about how I felt about it overall. There is nothing wrong with the actual site, it's spacious and loads of walks to go on. My issues were the numerous horse riders that kept coming through the middle of my pitch and then getting angry about my dog reacting to them. They have zero respect for the fact it's a campsite with dogs and kids around and it's incredibly rude to just invade someones pitch. Second thing was the sheer number of ticks. This is a rural site with deer roaming, I'm always prepare to deal with ticks wherever we go, but this was tickageddon and I've never experienced it so bad anywhere else. I was pulling them off my dog, me, a couple of kids next door, it was the theme of the whole weekend and has honestly put me off ever returning. Nothing the site can do about this and they do warn you, so just be aware and be prepared.

arrived at a solo traveller in motorhome,i asked upon arrival put me on best spot for phone signal, absolutely no signal unless near reception was only staying 1 night but needed a signal for business, after asking them at reception and being advised to upgrade to a electric pitch i gave up and asked to a refund from which they said no.So avoid like plague if a phone signal is essential

Great site and super helpful staff, big pitches and lots of wildlife around. Plenty of walks or cycle rides. The site has no toilets or showers but this is not a problem at all if you have your own facilities.

Beautiful campsite , clean and well kept , staff helpful and friendly. We took our 2 x young children and 2x dogs. Having read previous posts regarding pot holes all been repaired. Very quiet ( except for our children ) other children playing on bikes around camp, lots of walks as soon as you leave your van, coast close by, went paddle boarding lots of locations nearby. Only issue but not ours you need your own toilet.

This is our 4th trip to Setthorns with our 2 rescue dogs. First 3 trips were out of school holidays and amazing. Friendly staff, easy to book, beautiful setting & amazing peaceful dog walks. However (bad timing on our behalf)! We love this place for the peace and quiet so if that’s what you love then avoid booking in the school holidays! -unless you love loads of noisy screaming kids running wild in the woods whilst their parents sit getting drunk & loud around the BBQ!

I wasn't very impressed, they didn't let my campervan on the site because my side window didn't open!! It doesn't state in any of their rules that the side window need to open, my van fitted all the criteria of their rules. We were all a very disappointed as I'd spent hours trying to find the right site for my nephew who was travelling with us as his father had died 7 days days before, I'd taken him to this site as he enjoys the trees and nature and to take his mind off what had happened!! Very uncaring of them I think.
