Not worth half the cost , dirty drab and generally appalling , shower not working , filthy lace curtains no available parking, on the plus side the duty manager was polite and helpful and the location in the heart of the city is excellent , next door to a Wetherspoons if that's your cup of tea

This hotel is tired and dated with decor that hasn't been renewed since the 1980s. Our room was dirty, the bedding was dirty and stained, the toilet had not been cleaned, and still had a pubic hair on the seat from the previous occupant. The fire safety notice on the back of the door was peeling off and so old... More

Pros: good location, short walking distance to historical features of the city and good shopping. Wifi was free and the room came with an iron, board and tea and coffee facilities. Shower was decent, and TV channels worked well. Staff friendly. Cons: when we got to the hotel, we were told parking was full and we had to either leave... More

arrived at hotel tired then told that if we wanted to park in car park it would be an xtra £4 per night! which according to them was a GOOD deal as it was 50p cheaper than the ncp. Male receptionist was very camp and very smug,on entering room there was a musty smell , but the room itself was... More

Rather wary of the poor ratings, we were prepared for the worst. Being one of the only places available near to a wedding, we were left very little choice. With massive trepidation we unlocked the room door and were very pleasantly surprised to find the lovely room, comfortable beds and clean bathroom with bath and shower.

well, where do I start. The hotel is currently being given a make over on the outside, which is well overdue and is covered in scaffolding. The car park is very small and unless you get there early, you will need to park in the multi storey behind the hotel. The interior is dated and looks a bit grubby, in... More

I stayed here for two nights, whilst attending an event at Beaulieu. The outside is a little shabby, and badly in need of renovation. The check in procedure was a bit hap-hazard, and I objected to having to pay £4 extra per night to park my car. When I got to my room, I found it was a little on... More

It was a bit funny as checking in was so unorganised we were laughing. The place is a falling apart maze of terrible. The shower was mouldy, TV didn't work and wall paper hanging off the walls everywhere.

The Star feels a bit run down and the rooms are fairly basic (but that was all I wanted and needed, so shouldn't be read as a negative) but it was perfectly comfortable. The staff made me feel very welcome and were excellent throughout my short stay.
