Convenient location. Basic but good value for money. I would recommend if you want to be central to Southampton and are on a budget. Friendly staff and a good breakfast. Could do with updating in parts but would recommend.

My wife and I styayed at the Star Hotel in Southampton 2nd to 4th Jan 2015 inclusive. I must admit I was a bit apprehensive having read previous reviews. My personal experience is that is it excellent value for money. All the staff were sextremely helpful, smiling and pleasant to talk to. Breakfast was excellent Kippers not many places do... More

Stayed here for a reasonable price but have to say that you would be seriously gutted if you paid the full price. It's a shabby rundown hotel to be fair. Needs a serious makeover. Flipping noisy chambermaids knocking on doors at 8.30 am. Great ! Considering check out is 11.

Stayed here for one night late November 2014, down in Southampton to visit my sister. The hotel is very shabby on the outside, and the inside is not much better. However, the staff were very warm and welcoming and very helpful. The room itself was small, but clean and again in dire need of a complete re-model! Our room was... More

O.K. it is in need of a refurbishment, but staff very kind and polite, room was very clean and warm and nice fluffy towels. Great location, best breakfast I have ever had away from home, I would stay there again.

The chances are you don't like either of those things. The breakfast was nice and the staff reasonably pleasant, but that's not enough to save this hideous - and frankly shocking in construction terms - building. This isn't simply a case of a building that is dated. Yes, I've stayed in other hotels with dreary 70s interior and old furniture,... More

It was very clean and warm the room that I had was really big it had a good sized shower and I found it really quite quirky The breakfast was very tasty and the staff where also very good

I was put in here by work. So had no idea what I was getting. On arrival at 21:00 the staff were very polite and helpful. But as soon as you step into the the lift. You know what to expect. The hotel needs a refurbishment. The curtains don't close. The heating bangs during the night. And the radiator isn't... More

This is the second time we've stayed at The Star Hotel and have enjoyed both times. The staff are extremely friendly, breakfast is plentiful and well cooked and our rooms on both occasions have been lovely, particularly this second stay where we liked the room so much we stayed on an extra night. As other reviewers have noted, some parts... More

Really friendly staff but what a shockingly dated and musty smelling hotel. Cleanliness was ok but because it was old and tired it didn't feel like it was clean. If it was to have a major refit it would tick all the boxes! In the state its in, it should be no more than £30 per night tops. Not the... More
