Had a most enjoyable two night stay. The decor was a bit tired. However, could be described as portsmouth s own exotic Marigold hotel. The lift was an original one and almost a museum piece. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast superb. A real character hotel and worth a visit.

Very friendly staff, comfy room with clean linen, towels and plenty hot water - delicious hot breakfast with plenty of choice and gluten free toast available. Very convenient for railway station and Gunwhale wharf and to visit the dockyard. A hairdryer was provided on request with no charge- other reviews have mentioned the tired décor but the hotel is charming... More

Stayed at this hotel following a Christmas party at the Spinnaker Tower in December. Yes the hotel could do with a really good refurbishment but its good value for where it is as its within easy walking distance of Portsmouth Dockyard and Gunwharf Quay Shopping Centre. The room and bathroom were reasonably clean considering the need for a refurb with... More

Very friendly and helpful staff, both in advance and on the day. We stayed on the second floor; I personally loved the old fashioned lift(!) but my friend preferred the stairs! We stayed in a big room with high ceilings and a view overlooking the harbour. Having booked a twin room, we ended up with a double and a single,... More

The decor is tired and this hotel is in need of a refrub. But despite this we enjoyed our stay, and would definitely come back. The staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. The breakfasts are generous and tasty. And while the rooms are tired they still retain much of their original charm. What really makes the hotel special is its... More

This hotel is definitely in need of refurbishment, but if you can look past the tired and in some places crumbling decor, you won't be disappointed. The breakfast was very good, made to order and well cooked. Excellent location to visit HMS Victory or for shopping and dining round the marina.

We chose this location for us to take part in the Victorian Festival, which was ideal we had free parking during our stay, the room was clean and tidy and of a large size the breakfast was excellent with cereals, toast, and a full english breakfast on Sunday I had a croissant. The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful,... More

Stayed at this old hotel for the second time. Yes it is old but has so much history. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast. We will be back maybe in the new hotel? Greetings Carol and Wim from Littlehampton

The room had torn carpet, torn curtains, torn lampshades. Upholstery on furniture worn out and stained.Generally very shabby. Came back one lunchtime to collect item from room to find it unlocked with the housekeepers keys in the lock (big signal for any thief to enter). No sign of housekeeper who returned some 5-10 minutes later stating he had been for... More
