We stayed here with friends as we were down in Portsmouth for the Football. The hotel is very welcoming and friendly with large clean rooms and a good breakfast in the morning. This is a fantastic old building , high ceilings with ornate boarders the only down side is it is in desperate need of some TLC the halls/corridors need... More

Situated between Gun Wharf and The Royal Navy Museum the hotel is in the best possible location for a short break in Portsmouth. The staff are helpful, the linen is crisp and clean and the breakfasts good. In every other respect the Hotel is tired and scruffy. A major refurbishment is years overdue. We compiled a list of the most... More

The hotel is very tired and the decor dated but what a lovely building it is. It's very convenient from the train station and Gunwharf keys ( minutes to walk). The staff could not have been more helpful and the rooms were clean. If you ignore the views of the bus station and concentrate on the Spinnaker tower and historic... More

My husband, myself and our friend stayed here for three nights in September 2014. On the negative side, the hotel itself is scruffy, dated and worn both inside and out! Everything was either faded, fraying, peeling, or cracking! I think it was built in the 18th Century and I doubt it's been refurbished since then either! The place creaked and... More

It's still tired and faded but there's something that makes me want to come back. The staff are pleasant, the rooms are large (although in need of re refurbishment) and bed linen fresh and clean. If you are fortunate to have one of the front rooms and can ignore the bus station immediately in front of the hotel, there is... More

I stayed in the Keppels Head over the weekend to visit my partner who is based in Portsmouth. I would stay in this hotel again in a heart beat! We paid £69 per night for a double room with breakfast included... after being quoted £245 per night for the Holiday Inn Express (room only) we thought this was a bargain!... More

It has to be said : this hotel / B&B is in need of a very big refurbishment. It will attract some poor reviews on account of being frayed at some of its edges and lacking the pristine finishes that so many people expect wherever they go. The location is brilliant and the staff and catering are very acceptable. The... More

The only good thing about this hotel was its location - 5 minutes walk from all the ships and museums on the harbour front. It was a 10 minute walk to the Designer shopping outlet and lots of really nice restaurants and cafes. I would not recommend the hotel to anyone. Our room, 34, had a bed with a badly... More

Five minutes or less from your room are the Hisoric Dockyards, Railway Station, Isle of Wight Ferrirs, Trendy shops and dinning, old style pub and food and much more. The hotel is older with a classic manual sliding door lift that adds to thr charm, there is not evening dinning just breakfast. Rooms are basic and Wifi is only available... More

I was dreading this hotel after reading all the reviews but it is fine as I sit in our room looking at the old ship, The warrior, across the road, with the window open. Agree with everyone else about the condition of the hotel but it is convenient if you are relying on public transport and so close to everything.... More
