What this hotel lacks in decor it makes up for with its location. Yes, the rooms are tired and tatty but this hotel has heart as do the staff - a good breakfast too. All the sights are a few minutes walk away, the perfect location for a mini break.

Keepers head is a rather tired hotel, but it offers a warm welcome and is in a truly great position in Southsea, Portsmouth. I'm sure many clients are there for the ferries but being within walking distance of Gunwarf Quays and the Mary arose museum, the hotel is ideally placed for you to easily enjoy the benefits the area has.... I read most of the reviews on this Hotel, and they are mainly on the same theme, and knowing that I still booked three rooms there. The reason was the price, the fact we only wished to stay one night, the all included breakfast and the superb location. So I wasn't going to let the decor put me off. The... More

Stayed for one night, staff very friendly, hotel does need redecorating and a few maintenance jobs carried up but we liked it, it has character , . Great view from our room, bit noisy but I slept thro night , beds were very comfy. Breakfast was as good as anywhere and parking was free. Would definitely stay again even my partner... More

This is a beautiful historic building, unfortunately in dire need of a massive revamp. The dining room is magnificent, but the rest of the building is not. I was on the 3rd floor and the lift was out of order. Having climbed up to search for No.39 I thought the key didn't fit the lock, just wouldn't turn, but got... More

Agree with many of the other reviewers. The hotel has seen better days and is in need of modernisation but it served our purpose for a day out in Portsmouth Docks, which are a 5 minute walk away. Breakfast was good and service was fine. The lift is worth a visit by itself!

It's a historic hotel with creaky floorboard, taps where you wait for water, and a challenging lift, but I loved it! The breakfast room had high ceilings, white tablecloths and delicious scrambled eggs served by friendly staff. I would stay again.

Nice hotel and very friendly staff. Excellent full engish breakfast. Very close to historic dockyard and right opposite bus/coach station and ferry terminal to Isle of white. On the downside peeling wallpaper, cracked sink, broken tiles and toilet paper jammed into window frames to stop them rattling give the hotel a tatty unloved feeling

For the price paid compared to other hotels, the room I was in looked old and it badly need a refurbishment. WIFI is only available in the lobby. On a positive note, location is perfect, staff are very very helpful and breakfast was perfect.

Great location for the Historic dockyard, Gunwharf Quay,The station and bus station. Very large but tired room overlooking the Spinnaker tower and the Warrior ship. If you cherish your sleep i would recommend asking for a room at the back of the hotel, It is definitely worth forgoing the great view of the local attractions to avoid the 2am-4am rowdy... More
