This hotel could be wonderful. It has an enviable position. opposite the bus/train station/ historic shipyard. Only a couple of hundred yards from Gunwharf Quay. It has it's own free parking and all the staff I dealt with were excellent. The room was clean but very, very tired. It looks like any decorating that has been done has been done... More

I had to book this Hotel because it was the only one with a free room during the Victorious Festival. Let's start with the positive aspects: the position it's great, just in front of the harbour. Now the negatives. The building is very very old and definitely needs renovating. The room was filhty: very dusty and all covered with a... More

Having read other reviews I knew that the room I was offered might not be the best (Room 15) and was offered Room 39 instead. A pleasant enough room at the back of the hotel; it was not clean but everything important was. Crispy clean sheets, clean bath and lavatory. Two windows meant the room was airy. All the staff... The last review that said faded grandeur had it spot on. The views from the hotel were non existent and the moment you left the gunwharf walls you knew you weren't in the best part of town. The staff were friendly and chatty but the rooms were dilapidated and a little dirty. I did enjoy the flaking painted wooden statue... More

Maybe we were just plain unlucky. We had room 15. It has one very dirty, high sash window which looks out on a gap between buildings, a gap that is filled by a fire escape and a huge ducting structure. The night was stiflingly hot so we had to have the window wide open. As a result we were able... More

Having read the reviews, we weren't surprised by what we found and would agree with most comments. The hotel is in a great location, which is why we chose it, as we wanted to explore the Historic Dockyard and do a bit of shopping at Gunwharf Quay, both of which are on the doorstep! We were in the Victory Suite... More

As others have said first impressions are not good. The receptionist was very helpful though. We were in the Victory suite which is a great room, I just feel with a bit of extra work on it, it could be a fanatic room put a four poster bed in there the room is big enough. We had a view over... More

At first glance it might look ok but the signage outside shows the wear and tear which is apparent in some of the rooms. Having said that, the receptionist was welcoming and informative. Our room was on the first floor (a double/family room) plus a single on the 3rd floor. The bedding was clean but the beds were a little... More
