Good location and clean room but that's all that can be said about this hotel. Its not that cheap as you can get what looks to be a nice bed and breakfast in trendy old Portsmouth for slightly less. Cheapest ingredients for breakfast. Weak coffee, tinned tomatoes, tinned mushrooms, no meat in the sausage and the poached eggs were stale.... More

For: Next to harbour/station/buses/shops Cheap for a hotel Reasonable breakfast Against: No shower Room too hot Crumbling decor Avocado bathrooms were trendy in the '70s Saniflo and hotel do not belong in same sentence Choice of one draught beer and two wines Conclusion: Spend less on a proper B&B or spend more on a proper hotel. Demolition would be the... More

We stayed here as were having work done to our bathroom. The room was very shabby but clean, everything in the room was on a slant so things slid off the bedside tables and dresser. The bathroom was from the 70s there was no shower and a carpeted floor. The breakfast was decent enough plenty of tea or coffee and... More

Never stayed in anywhere as bad as this. Arrived and checked in, the lift was so old it was one that needed the doors that you pulled across. The room was so mix match, wall paper peeling off the walls, tiles broken and missing in the bathroom, new flooring needed also. No mattress protractor on the bed, just a sheet,... More

I always stay in this hotel when in Portsmouth. Its like going back in time to the 70's! Regency stripes and avocado bathrooms! But I love it. It's location is fantastic, overlooking the harbour and the Warrior and a five minute walk to Gunwharf Quays where there are treny bars and restaurants and designer shops etc., and alos there are... This spot is across the street from the Portsmouth Harbor stop. Couldn't be more convenient if you're carrying luggage on way to IOW as I was, or in town for the historic dockyard. Definitely out of date room and cheap furnishings, my room #14 was a single with shower only, but the room and bath were clean and sufficient. That's... More

On the good side...the location is excellent being just a short stroll from the historic dockyards. It has its own secure car park. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was good, hot and freshly cooked. Our room was large with a great view of the harbour area. It was quiet and not too hot, linen was clean and... More

I wanted to visit Portsmouth to see the Historic Dockyard so location was the key. After reading reviews on here sime good some bad I decided to give the Keppels Head a go. On the outside its clear that it needs a lot of tlc although appearance is not eveything. I was greeted by a very helpful man in reception... More

We stayed at Keppels Head for a long weekend. The hotel is a bit dated, but very clean. The room we had was a very good size, with a double and single bed in. The breakfast was very good, a good selection to choose from. The hotel is very close to the Historic Dockyards and Gunwharf, it is also only a... More

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. Perfectly positioned two minutes from trains, coach stop and gun wharf quay. At first we thought it was fine..very dated room, avocado bathroom suite with regency wallpaper on bathroom walls, not decorated since the 80,s I'm guessing..but chuffed that it was close to everything and we were only staying one...
