Well located, mid range hotel opposite the old Pier in Southsea. Large spacious rooms many with Sea views. Delightful, helpful staff. Approximately two miles walk/bus or taxi to Gunwharf Quays and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard - both 'must sees' for the first time leisure traveller. Our two day/one night stay was blessed with the hottest two days of the year thus... More

All great except the evening meal. Fine if you wanted a full three course menu or a carvery - plenty of it, hot, but bland. Otherwise there was no choice except a small bar menu. Loved the rooms, the facilities and the staff but was really disappointed about the dinner.

We stayed for 4 nights in March to visit the wife's rellies and attend a wedding which coincided with the most glorious weather. Our room was spaceous and front facing with great view of the pier and promenade and a lot of people taking advantage of the warmth during the day. (Sadly, you don't appear to be able to walk... With more and more hotels becoming part of chains where you know exactly what any room in any country will look like, stepping into this hotel is walking back a decasde or two. Furnished in many different styles which presumably reflect the periods during which they were refurbished, most of the rooms seem to be large by modern standards. At... More

I stayed here on business for 2 nights recently due to the hotel I normally stay in being sold out. Having got used to the other hotel I must say I was apprehensive about the move. I need not have worried, this hotel was brilliant. They made me feel most welcome on arrival and I was extremely impressed all round.... More

I stayed at this hotel for 1 night and had a brilliant stay. I had booked a single room with sea view and was very pleasently suprised to be allocated room 109 - a beautiful suite which was very welcome after a 5 hour journey from Leeds. I only wish I could have stayed longer. The service from staff was... More

I love old hotels with character and this was exactly that, a hotel with lots of character! From the moment I walked in the door the feeling of history and splendour struck me. A friendly efficient welcome and as i was travelling with my elderly mother nothing was too much trouble. My room was very spacious, huge bathroom and even... More

From the moment I arrived at Royal Beach I was made to feel valued and welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. All staff were attentive without being intrusive. The room was excellent, spacious, scrupulously clean with a wonderful sea view. The breakfast was always good and I especially recommend the portsmouth fish market smoked haddock at no extra cost. The... More
